Here’s a headline you don’t see enough: humans actually helped bring a species BACK.

The giant panda was once one of the most recognizable symbols of an endangered species.

Today, it’s officially classified as Vulnerable instead of Endangered.

That change didn’t happen overnight, and it definitely didn’t happen by accident.

China built dozens of panda reserves. Forest habitat was protected and reconnected. Anti-poaching enforcement got stronger. Captive breeding improved. Scientists and conservation groups kept working the problem for DECADES.

And the population responded.

There are now roughly 1,900 giant pandas living in the wild, plus hundreds more in captivity.

That is a huge conservation win.

Now, before anybody starts acting like the problem is solved, it isn’t. Pandas are still vulnerable. Their habitat is fragmented. They depend heavily on bamboo. Climate change could make that habitat even harder to protect.

But I think that’s exactly why this story matters.

We hear so much about species disappearing, habitats shrinking, and everything getting worse that it’s easy to assume none of it can be reversed.

Sometimes it can.

Not quickly.

Not cheaply.

Not with some viral hashtag and a press release.

But with enough time, money, science, cooperation, and people who refuse to give up on it, you can actually move the needle in the right direction.

That’s worth celebrating.

Pop Con YXE is coming up this weekend and I'll be there along with the rest of DMU running games. My schedule for this weekend is

Saturday 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM - Daggerheart: The Creeping Sands.

Sunday 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM - Planet of the Apes: Hunted on the Planet of the Apes

Come by the gaming tables (same location as last year) and try a new game.

I'll also be debuting my new Paisley Wizard costume

Day one of Tooncon is done. I ran a game of Daggerheart, and a game of Call of Cthulhu. Both games went great! I got to meet and play with a bunch of new people!

Tomorrow I have Coyote & Crow starting at 10:00.
