Back in July, I joined the Minister of Water, Lands and Parks, MP Mel Arnold, and local farmers on a tour of the Salmon River watershed to talk about the water restrictions hitting our ranchers and growers.

A good follow-up piece in the Observer this week lays out some of the solutions being discussed β€” from small water storage reservoirs to a community irrigation system that could double capacity for farms north of Silver Creek. Over 800 farmers in this watershed produce more than $180 million in agricultural products, so getting this right matters.

No decisions yet, but I'll keep pushing for real solutions that work for both fish and farms.

Facebook wont allow me to share the link to the article but I encourage those interested to look it up.

Did you know Three Valley Gap runs entirely on its own power? πŸ”οΈ

This BC heritage destination has been independent from the grid for years β€” powered by a run-of-the-river hydro system that still supplies the entire facility today.

As critic for BC Hydro I believe that run of the river is the answer to a lot of the hydro electric issues we have in the province. A great example of a made-in-BC solution that's been working quietly for decades.

Overdue infrastructure doesn't just affect businesses and economic prosperity, it impacts lives. Sad to hear of more lives lost on roads in our region.

Though progress is being made in parts of our region, four-laning this corridor and improving safety measures needs to be expedited. It's time for the province to prioritize this stretch, speed up the timeline, and give commuters the safe, reliable highway they've been asking for.

🎬 Fun Fact Friday 🌟

Did you know Enderby is home to one of the largest drive-in movie screens in North America? The Starlight Drive-In has been lighting up the night just outside town since 1996 β€” and it's also BC's last remaining standalone drive-in theatre.

Under the stars, big screen, engine off β€” a true Shuswap classic that's stuck around while so many others across the province have closed.

Good news: it's not too late! The season runs into September, so there's still time to grab some snacks and catch a show. 🍿✨

The IPE is back in Armstrong this week, right here in our riding β€” and this year marks 125 years! Five days of rodeo, livestock shows, and local talent on full display, one of the best weeks on the calendar. Hope to see some of you there!

Three Valley Gap is one of the true gems of our region.

Recently I had the chance to visit and chat with the original owners Grandson and granddaughter to discuss what makes it special, and hear some of the real challenges they're facing.

09/01/2026

Just in time for cooler evenings and the first signs of fall, the Category 1 campfire prohibition in the Kamloops Fire Centre will be lifted effective noon on Thursday, September 3.

Recent changes in conditions mean residents and visitors can once again enjoy a campfire β€” but please continue to use care. Wildfire risk hasn’t disappeared simply because summer is winding down.

A few important reminders:

πŸ”₯ Campfires must be no larger than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide.

πŸ’§ Never leave a campfire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.

🚫 Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre.

πŸ“ Local governments may have their own restrictions, so always check local regulations before lighting a fire.

After a long wildfire season, this is welcome news as we head toward cooler fall weather. Enjoy those evenings around the fire, and thank you to everyone who continues to do their part to keep our communities and forests safe.
