🚗 City tests new rubber speed cushions on Mount Pleasant Avenue East

The City of Saint John is trying out a new approach to traffic calming. Sets of rubber speed cushions, bolted directly to the road, have been installed on Mount Pleasant Avenue East to help reduce speeding.

Why rubber? This temporary option allows the City to evaluate effectiveness before investing in permanent asphalt installations.

📉 Speed cushions have already shown strong results in Saint John, with average speeds dropping by about 9 km/h after installation.
🔄 These rubber cushions are part of a pilot program and will be removed this fall and tested at another location in 2027.

Traffic calming measures are installed only on streets that meet the criteria outlined in the City’s Traffic Calming Policy.

✅ Slower speeds mean safer streets for everyone.
