🛡️ Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office Receives Lifesaving Body Armor Donation 🛡️

On June 2, 2026, the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office was honored to receive five ballistic vests and rifle-rated armor plates through a generous donation from SHIELD616, a Colorado-based nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting first responders and strengthening the communities they serve. A ceremony was held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cheyenne Wells where deputies were surrounded by family and loved ones to support the deputies.

SHIELD616 was founded with a simple but powerful mission: to equip law enforcement officers and first responders with lifesaving protective equipment. Through donations and community partnerships, SHIELD616 has provided thousands of pieces of body armor and protective equipment to agencies across Colorado and beyond.

Modern body armor is one of the most important pieces of safety equipment a deputy can wear. Ballistic vests and rifle-rated plates are designed to provide critical protection against firearm threats and other dangerous situations officers may encounter while serving the public. In rural law enforcement, where backup can often be miles away and deputies routinely respond alone to emergencies, having reliable protective equipment can make a tremendous difference.

The cost of replacing body armor can be substantial. 5 complete ballistic vest and rifle plate packages can cost several thousand dollars per deputy, with a short lifespan of 5 years, creating a significant expense for small agencies operating on limited budgets. Donations such as this help ensure our deputies have access to modern, effective protective equipment without placing additional burden on local taxpayers.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our sincere gratitude to SHIELD616, their donors, and the community members who continue to support law enforcement and public safety. Their generosity directly contributes to the safety of the men and women who serve Cheyenne County every day.

We are grateful for this investment in our deputies and our community. These vests and plates will help provide an added layer of protection as our deputies continue their mission of serving and protecting the citizens of Cheyenne County.

Thank you, Shield616 for your commitment to protecting those who protect others.

FLOCK Alert Leads to Traffic Stop and Drug-Related Charges

On May 28, 2026, at approximately 1730 hours, the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office received a FLOCK License Plate Reader alert regarding a female party traveling through the area who had an active misdemeanor warrant for drug-related charges out of Douglas County.

Cheyenne County deputies located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. During the course of the investigation, deputies developed probable cause to search and located evidence consistent with drug use and distribution. Charges include Drug Felony 2: intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession/use of a controlled substance schedule II, possession of schedule IV controlled substance, driving under restraint, no proof of insurance, defective vehicle, and open container of ma*****na.

Upon further investigation, deputies also conducted an interview and assisted with an ongoing domestic violence situation out of Kansas.

The female party was transported to jail and is currently being held on a $20,000 bond.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

In January 2026, the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office began utilizing FLOCK License Plate Reader (LPR) cameras on a trial basis as an additional investigative and public safety tool. Following several months of documented use and evaluation, the Sheriff’s Office will continue utilizing the cameras to better assist our citizens and support law enforcement operations throughout Cheyenne County.

WHAT IS FLOCK?
Flock Safety is a network of license plate-reader (LPR) cameras that capture vehicle license plates in real time. The system helps support law enforcement in identifying vehicles connected to crime. The main objective of the FLOCK camera program is simple: to help keep our citizens and their property safe. We have six cameras set up to provide deputies with an additional tool to assist in locating suspect vehicles, recovering stolen property, supporting criminal investigations, and enhancing overall community safety.

Since its implementation, FLOCK LPR technology has assisted Cheyenne County deputies and partnering agencies in investigations involving serious crimes and public safety threats. We have apprehended a murder suspect, recovered two motor vehicles, found two missing persons, recovered stolen property, and arrested wanted fugitives.

What does Flock NOT DO?
The cameras are not used to “track” individuals. Law enforcement must have a valid reason to search the system, including a case number. Data is stored for 30 days, unless it is flagged for an active investigation. Your privacy is protected! Flock cameras only capture photos of your license plate. Not images of the driver or passengers. Data is securely stored, and only law enforcement has access to it. Flock cameras capture vehicle information such as license plates and vehicle characteristics to assist with criminal investigations and investigative leads. These cameras are not a speed enforcement tool and do not issue speeding citations. Their purpose is investigative in nature and focused on enhancing public safety.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office understands the importance of transparency and accountability when utilizing technology. For that reason, the use of FLOCK cameras is audited every 60 days to ensure compliance with policy, appropriate use, and continued effectiveness as a law enforcement resource.

The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to responsibly utilizing technology that supports criminal investigations, strengthens interagency cooperation, and improves our ability to respond to crime while respecting the rights and privacy of our community.
For questions regarding the FLOCK LPR program or its use within Cheyenne County, please contact the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office at 719-767-5633.

Remember, with the warmer weather rolling in, snakes are starting to come out and move around more. This healthy bull snake was safely relocated from the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office today.

Bull snakes are non-venomous and actually help keep rodent populations under control, so if possible, give them space and let them continue on their way.

Big thanks to Zane for helping get this one moved safely! 🐍
