This is St. Catharines' first commercial greenhouse, built by John Holder c. 1863. Rosebank Nursery sold prize-winning dahlias, gladioli, cucumber, and strawberries on Queenston Street, just across from the end of Page Street. Rosebank Nursery operated until c. 1898, when John Holder sold it due to ill health. He died just a few years later in November, 1901.
R.L. Dunn, who had operated a florist business on Ontario Street, sold his property and moved to Queenston Street in 1902. The Dunn family operated a florist business on Queenston Street for 110 years, until Bob Dunn retired in 2008. He passed away in 2025, at the age of 86.
This year, dive deeper into the history of St. Catharines to mark the city's 150th anniversary with us. Throughout 2026, be on the lookout for programs and events that celebrate this incredible milestone.
