As an add-on to our summer nature program, we are running a couple nature classes this week at Grey Nuns White Spruce Park! 🌲🦉

Join us for a new adventure, and learn all about a habitat different than the one we explored all summer! Broaden your horizon and witness how different soils, plants, and trees create a distinct type of environment suited to different wildlife (which we will also hopefully be seeing!) 🐾

Highlights will include many songbirds and chickadees, a boardwalk through an old growth forest, and applying the knowledge you’ve learned all summer to a new environment!

Hope to see you there! Registration link: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/nature-program-bonus-exploring-white-spruce-park-tickets-1626642223679?aff=oddtdtcreator

The kids located quite an interesting (rare) find this afternoon! 🙊 What you’re looking at is called Ghost pipe (Monotropa uniflora)!

You may have noticed that this plant doesn’t have any green parts…this is because it lacks chlorophyll! Therefore it’s unable to photosynthesize to produce its own energy as other plants do. Instead it functions via parasitism; where fungi in the soil connect it to nearby tree roots to steal energy and nutrients!😮

Credit to our 12pm class for the observation!
