🏫As kids go back to school, we're reminding drivers of the importance of driving and parking safely in school zones.

🚌School zones have a speed limit of 30 km/h from 8am-5pm on school days.

🚗To help make our streets safer for our kids, please be courteous and park responsibly when dropping off or picking up children from school and follow these tips:
🚸
• Avoid double parking.
• Watch for signs indicating ‘No Parking.’
• Keep School bus zones clear so kids can safely exit the bus.
• Leave 5 meters between your car and any crosswalk markings.
• Leave 5 meters to stop signs, yield signs or intersections.
• Be courteous to neighbours around schools and don't block entrances to garages or driveways.

Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Time on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be permitted throughout the Southeast Fire Centre, which includes the Rocky Mountain Natural Resource District and the Selkirk Natural Resource District.

Other activities which were previously included in the Category 1 campfire prohibition (The use of sky lanterns, and the use of wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building) will now be permitted in the Southeast Fire Centre.

Category 2 and 3 open fire as defined in the Wildfire Regulation remains prohibited.

Office Closure: Labour Day Weekend

Please note that City Hall and Public Works offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labour Day.

Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 8.

Heads up, trail enthusiasts! 🚶‍♂️🚴‍♀️

A section of the Kootenay-Columbia Trail will be temporarily closed for some important mitigation work that will be completed by Teck. This is scheduled to start on September 28, 2026.

The closure will affect a section of the KC trail between Snake and Eddie J Upper Trail.

Please be prepared for brief intermittent closures near the Centennial Trail parking lot and Monte Christo Road due to equipment movement. Expect some noise and heavy equipment activity during this time.
