Yesterday, the Québec government introduced Bill 8, which would limit access to English-language Adult Education and Vocational Training programs to students with English-language education rights.
Why does this matter?
• Because Adult Education and Vocational Training programs help people finish high school, learn a trade, retrain for a new career, and gain the skills they need to succeed.
• Because restricting access could create barriers for adult learners, newcomers, and others seeking a second chance through education.
• Because these programs help address labour shortages in important sectors such as health care, construction, information technology, and skilled trades.
We believe it is possible to protect and promote the French language while preserving pathways that help people graduate, gain skills, and contribute to Quebec's economy.
