Yesterday, the Québec government introduced Bill 8, which would limit access to English-language Adult Education and Vocational Training programs to students with English-language education rights.

Why does this matter?

• Because Adult Education and Vocational Training programs help people finish high school, learn a trade, retrain for a new career, and gain the skills they need to succeed.

• Because restricting access could create barriers for adult learners, newcomers, and others seeking a second chance through education.

• Because these programs help address labour shortages in important sectors such as health care, construction, information technology, and skilled trades.

We believe it is possible to protect and promote the French language while preserving pathways that help people graduate, gain skills, and contribute to Quebec's economy.

The Laurier Gala, held on May 28, was a wonderful celebration of student excellence, bringing together students, families, educators, and community members for an inspiring evening.

Hosted by the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Foundation, the gala recognized the outstanding achievements of students across the school board, highlighting their hard work, dedication, and success throughout the year. Adding to the excitement, talented students from across the board performed for their peers, showcasing their creativity, passion, and artistic talents.

The evening was expertly hosted by Kelly Alexander, whose energy and enthusiasm helped make the celebration even more memorable. From the inspiring recognition of student achievements to the exceptional performances, the event reflected the incredible talent found throughout our schools.

A sincere thank you to Caisse Thérèse-De Blainville for their generous sponsorship and support of this special event. Their commitment to education and youth helps make opportunities like the Laurier Gala possible.

Congratulations to all the students who were recognized, the performers who shared their talents, and everyone who contributed to making this event such a success. It was truly an excellent evening and a fitting tribute to student achievement.

PRIDE MONTH | LE MOIS DE LA FIERTÉ

Students from Rosemere High School came to the administrative centre during their lunch today to raise the Pride flag, which will fly until June 30.

Pride Month is an opportunity to learn, listen, and better understand the experiences of others while celebrating the diversity that strengthens our schools and communities.

Thank you to the students who were present to mark the beginning of Pride Month.

At SWLSB, everyone belongs.
