You might have seen Summer Gallant in the news lately...and she’s been getting attention far beyond Riverview!
From national TV to local headlines, our young town crier has been sharing her voice, her enthusiasm and her love for our community.
This September, Summer is heading to Chester, England, to represent Riverview at an international town crier gathering and competition, where she’ll compete alongside seasoned town criers from around the world.
But many of you already know Summer from around town. You might have seen her behind the coffee bar at Buddha Bear Café, helping organize the Saturday Farmers’ Market on the Riverfront, or lending a hand at this year’s Canada Day celebrations in Caseley Park.
For Summer, this opportunity is about more than a competition. It’s about representing the community that has supported her along the way.
“I’ve had so many residents cheer me on, encourage me and take an interest in what I’m doing,” said Summer. “I’m incredibly grateful for that support, and I’m looking forward to bringing a little bit of our community with me to Chester.”
The trip also carries a special connection to Riverview’s own history. Ward 3 Councillor Kelly Forsythe Preston is especially proud to see Summer continue a tradition that was held by her late father, Gerry Forsythe, who served as Riverview’s town crier for many years.
“It means a great deal to see Summer breathing new life into this wonderful tradition and bringing it to a new generation,” said Councillor Forsythe Preston.
Mayor LeBlanc is also wishing Summer the very best as she prepares to take the stage in Chester.
“Summer has become such a wonderful ambassador for Riverview, and we’re incredibly proud to see her taking this tradition to the international stage,” said Mayor LeBlanc. “We wish her the very best in Chester. We’ll be cheering her on from the sidelines and can’t wait to hear all about the experience when she returns home.”
The international gathering and competition kicks off September 22 in Chester, England.
