Opened in September 2014, Lassam Road Little Free Children's Library is near to James McKinney Elementary School. Anyone is welcome to borrow a children's book or to leave a children's book and take one.

A gentle reminder that the Lassam Road Little Free Library is focused on serving children, youth and families in our neighbourhood.

Occasionally, items are left in the library that are not suitable for children or youth. These items are removed when noticed and donated.

Parental supervision when using the Little Free Library is always recommended.

Please enjoy the books and occasional treats like pencils or stickers.

Today in the library, Little Owl, Little Owl written by Alexandra Froese and illustrated by Crystal Carrette. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

Ms. Froese is a wildlife bioligist. Ms. Carrette is a graphic designer/artist. They are longtime friends and both reside in Manitoba, Canada.

This informative picture book features facts about burrowing owls and how they are different from other, better known birds of prey. Burrowing owls are an endangered species and proceeds from the sale of this book benefit projects aimed at recovering the species in Canada.

Today's featured πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ children's book is Babies of the Great Bear Rainforest by Ian McAllister. This photographic board book was published by Orca Book Publishers of Victoria, British Columbia. It is available in our today.

Mr. McAllister is a Canadian wildlife conservationist and nature photographer. The photos in this boardbook for young children are absolutely spectacular and offer an intriguing look at wild babies of our beautiful Great Bear Rainforest.

Today's children's book was written by Shar Levine and Leslie Johnstone. It was illustrated by Ashley Spires.

Ms. Levine is a Member of the Order of Canada. She has written over 70 books.

Ms. Johnstone holds a Masters in Education and has written dozens of science-related books for children.

Ms. Spires is an accomplished author illustrator of both picture books and graphic novels.

All three women live in British Columbia.

Scary Science - 25 Creepy Experiments will appeal to children aged 10 and up. Detailed lnstructions including lists of equipment and a glossary will enable experimentation at home (or at school). Adult supervision is recommended as readers investigate Shrunken Heads, Spider Webs, Things That Glow in the Dark and more.

Today's featured Canadian picture book is The Moccasin Goalie written and illustrated by William Roy Brownridge.

Mr. Brownridge was born in Saskatchewan in 1932. As a child, he faced medical challenges, including Spina Bifida. Art became his creative outlet and his paintings are often spectacularly evocative of life on the Canadian Prairies especially playing hockey.

Orca Book Publishers published his first children's book, The Moccasin Goalie in 1995. It subsequently became a best seller and Mr. Brownridge subsequently wrote two additional books about Danny and his friends.
