Improving safety and restoring public space under the Oak Street Bridge.

Richmond City Council recently received an update on the successful clean-up of abandoned structures and debris beneath the Oak Street Bridge between Van Horne Way and Bridgeport Road.

This coordinated effort, brought forward by Clr. Carol Day Richmond City Council and supported by Clr. Michael Wolfe M.Ed. City Councillor and Clr. Laura Gillanders, involved multiple agencies working together to address safety, environmental, and community concerns.

Through careful planning and collaboration with city teams, outreach staff, and partner agencies, structures and dumping sites were removed and truckloads of debris cleared — helping make the area safer while ensuring individuals were treated with care and connected with support services where possible.

This is a good example of thoughtful, practical action and collaboration delivering results for our community.
