🎬 Doors Open Theatre 2026 featuring: Mary Point

Mary Point, an Elder of Musqueam Nation, shares the history of her family in the traditional Musqueam village named qʷeyaʔχʷ (now known as Steveston village) that traces back many generations. From her ancestors that protected the coastline, to her own childhood memories growing up in the area, her people’s connection to the land is one that is deeply rooted in culture and tradition. Mary closes the video with a performance of the Musqueam Paddle Song that was traditionally performed by warriors and used to greet visitors.

This video is part of the Doors Open Theatre series, which brings stories from local organizations to the screen. Watch this and many more videos from past years inside the Cultural Centre Annex all day June 6-7.

June is also National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time to recognize the rich history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis. Today, and every day, we acknowledge and thank the First Peoples of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ language group on whose traditional territories we work and live.
