Across York Region, Asian Heritage Month is more than a celebration: it is a reminder of the stories, traditions, families, small businesses, community leaders, and neighbours with Asian heritage who have helped shape the place we call home.

From Markham and Richmond Hill to Vaughan, Aurora, Newmarket, and communities across the region, Asian Canadians continue to enrich our neighbourhoods, strengthen our local economy, and inspire future generations.

This month, we honour the diversity of Asian communities whose cultures, achievements, and contributions have helped build both York Region and Canada.

Thank you for your stories, your contributions, and for being such an important part of our community!

Together, we celebrate diversity.
Together, we honour heritage.
Together, we build a stronger York Region and a stronger Canada.

This Volunteer Appreciation Week comes to a close, we just want to say one thing:

Thank you.

This month, we saw what’s possible when people come together.

From the recent by-election, where your hard work helped deliver a strong result, to the federal election last April 28, and every conversation in between, it’s been powered by volunteers like you.

Across York Region, you showed up.

You knocked on doors.
You made calls.
You listened.

And those conversations mattered.

They’re what build trust.
They’re what strengthen our communities.
They’re what move us forward, together.

That’s what this week is really about.

And it’s why this movement is stronger because of you.

But we’re not done yet.

This weekend, we’re heading back out across York Region, connecting with more neighbours, continuing the conversations, and building on the momentum we’ve created together.

If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, this is your moment.

Join us this weekend.
Come out for a shift.
Be part of the work happening right here in your community.

Some of the best moments in York Region happen outdoors.

A walk through a quiet trail.
A bike ride on a sunny afternoon.
Time spent in our parks with family and friends.

It’s these everyday moments that remind us what we’re working to protect.

This Earth Day, it’s the small actions that make a real difference, saving energy, reducing waste, supporting local, and making greener choices where we can.

Because when we take care of the places we love, we’re helping build a cleaner, healthier future for our whole community.

What’s one small thing you’re doing for Earth Day?

In York Region, getting around is part of everyday life.

From early morning commutes on the 404 and 400 to school drop-offs, errands, and weekend plans, driving connects our families, our work, and our communities.

And we’ve heard from many of you: the cost of gas has been adding up.

That’s why we’ve taken action.

By removing federal gas taxes, our government is helping Canadians pay less at the pump, putting more money back in your pocket when it matters most.

For families and commuters across York Region, that could mean saving up to $100–$120 over the summer.

A little more flexibility in your budget.
A little more room for the things that matter most.

This is part of a broader effort, led by Prime Minister Carney, alongside the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Natural Resources, to support affordability while building strong, resilient communities.

And right here in York Region, we’re proud to work with our local representative, the Member of Parliament for Markham—Thornhill and Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, to ensure these measures reflect the needs of our region.

Because for us, this work is about people.

It’s about listening, and taking action to support the middle class and those working hard to join it.

It’s about making sure families can get ahead, not fall behind.

That’s the approach we believe in.
That’s the work we’re focused on.

And that’s how we’re building a more affordable, stronger York Region, together.
