Today, we mark Yom Ha’atzmaut and celebrate Israel’s 78th year of independence.

For 78 years, Israel has stood as the democratic homeland of the Jewish people, built through sacrifice, defended through courage, and sustained by an unbreakable national spirit.

This year, that celebration carries added weight. The trials of the last few years, many of which continue today, have underscored a fundamental truth: the Jewish people need a strong Israel. Not only as a symbol of national renewal, but as a source of protection, strength, and refuge in an often-hostile world.

Yom Ha’atzmaut is therefore more than a celebration of past achievement. It is a reminder of why Israel matters, why its strength matters, and why its future matters.

Today, we honour the generations who built the state, the soldiers who defend it, the families who sustain it, and the enduring courage of a people who continue to stand tall through grief, sacrifice, and adversity.

And we remember this: Israel is not merely part of the Jewish story. Israel is the guarantee that the Jewish story continues.

When: This evening through Thursday.

Additional information: A few more rounds of showers and embedded thunderstorms are possible through Thursday. Portions of the Region have received significant rainfall amounts over the last few days. As a result, any further rainfall could have significant impacts. Rainfall warnings may be issued for some regions.

Rainfall amounts will likely be highly variable across the Region.

Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Don't drive through flooded roadways. Avoid low-lying areas.
