In Mount Revelstoke, Glacier and Rogers Pass, nature and culture have evolved together. These iconic places offer Canadians and international visitors a chance to connect with the wonder of the Columbia Mountains environment and to discover the evolving relationship of people with the land. The parks protect and preserve the globally important wilderness and biodiversity that define the essential character of this natural environment. Wildlife, including grizzly bears, wolverines and mountain caribou co-exist with the people who visit and live in this area. A portion of the world’s only inland temperate cedar/hemlock rainforest is protected within the parks.

📢 Temporary Closure Notice 📢

Please be aware that tomorrow, September 15, the Skunk Cabbage Day Use Area and Boardwalk will be closed for joint industry and staff training. The area will reopen on September 16.

🌿During that time, consider exploring Hemlock Grove or Giant Cedars, two nearby stops offering a chance to experience the inland temperate rainforest.

⚠️ If wildlife or people are in danger, wildlife is near roads or busy areas, or an animal appears sick or injured, call Parks Canada Dispatch immediately at 1-877-852-3100.

When there is no immediate danger, take a minute to complete our Wildlife Observation Form. Your report helps Parks Canada track wildlife activity, improve visitor safety, and protect the animals that call the parks home. 💚

🌲 Trail Tales Episode 1: Having a Trail Crew Summer 🌲
Ever wonder what our Trail Crew gets up to all summer? 👀

🌱 Early season, trail crew clear fallen trees and winter debris. while assessing trail conditions. Work starts at the valley bottom and moves higher as trails become snow-free.

☀️ Mid-season, brushing overgrown and re-treading trails, campsite improvements and installing seasonal bridges are a priority.

🍂 As the season winds down, the crew takes down and stores the seasonal bridges and clears and maintains ditches before winter arrives.

From spring to fall, Trail crew keeps our trails safe, functional and ready adventures.

🏕️ Good news, campers!

Tent camping is permitted again at the Illecillewaet Campground.

⚠️ A bear warning remains in effect for the Illecillewaet Campground and the surrounding trail network.

Help keep yourself and wildlife safe:
🐻 When hiking, make noise, stay close to your group, and carry bear spray. Know how to use it.
🧺Store food, cooking equipment, and garbage in bear-proof lockers, not in your tent.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🐕 Supervise children and keep pets on leash.
🚫 Never feed wildlife—big or small.

🌲 Please take precautions to help protect wildlife and keep everyone safe.

🍂 Sweater weather is just around the boulder! The September long weekend is a beautiful time to say goodbye to summer and hello to crisp mornings, colourful leaves, and fall adventures in Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks.

Heading out? Be prepared:

🎟️ One last weekend of Canada Strong! Enjoy free admission through the September long weekend. Regular admission fees return September 8.

🧥 Pack for the season in between. Mountain weather can change quickly, so don’t forget your layers and be ready for cooler temperatures and changing conditions.
🚗 Always have a Plan B if parking lots or trailheads are full.

🐻 Stay Bear Aware. As you explore, give wildlife plenty of space. Carry bear spray, make sure it is easily accessible, and know how to use it. before you need it.

🫎🌲 Wildlife Wednesday: Meet the Moose! 🌲🫎

Did you know that moose are the largest members of the deer family?

These animals can stand over 180cm tall at the shoulder and weigh up to 680kg!

Moose are also amazing swimmers and can even dive underwater to feed on aquatic plants 🌿.

Despite their massive size, they're surprisingly fast and can run up to 55 km/h! 💨

If you're lucky enough to spot a moose in the wild 👀🫎, remember to give it plenty of space (at least 50m). Moose may appear calm, but they can become defensive if they feel threatened, especially during rutting (mating) season. Moose in BC rut runs from mid-September to late-October

Let's do our part to keep wildlife wild by observing from a safe distance and respecting their habitat 🌎❤️.

🎉 Great news! Balu Pass Trail reopens today!

Last week, our awesome trail team finished clearing the extensive avalanche debris and snow left on the trail from last winter. We can now reopen access to this beautiful area of Glacier National Park. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this happen! 👏

Reminders:
🐻 Balu Pass is under a group of four access restriction annually from July 15 to September 30
🐶 Dogs are not allowed on this trail.

Balu Pass is not only known for its alpine meadows and spectacular views, it’s also important grizzly bear habitat. To minimize disturbance to bears feeding in the area, hiking parties must be in a group of four adults or more.

Starting as early as Tuesday, September 1, Parks Canada will begin annual fall wildfire risk reduction projects.

Work is planned for the area of the park below the highway interchange and will include tree removal, vegetation thinning, and pile burning if conditions allow.
Smoke may be visible from the Trans-Canada Highway and from the City of Revelstoke.

The project area includes a network of unofficial trails and associated wood features, including small bridges. Some of these trails and features will be affected by the work and may be closed or removed as necessary for safety and to allow the wildfire risk reduction work to proceed.

Wildfire risk reduction is an important part of Parks Canada’s fire management program. The work is intended to reduce the amount of forest fuel available to a wildfire and help slow the spread of fire.

If weather permits, this work will continue through the month of October.

Planning to visit Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks on September 8 or later? Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Admission, camping, and Discovery Passes will return to regular prices.

✅ Visitors who purchased their Discovery Passes before the Canada Strong Pass period will automatically receive a three-month extension on their pass.

Entry and service fees help support visitor facilities, services, infrastructure, and conservation efforts throughout the parks.
