Two more of our amazing intake volunteers

Sharon:
Volunteering at the food bank allows me to help families who are struggling to make ends meet. It’s a way for me to give back to the community and it gives me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Volunteering for me is a rewarding experience because of the gratitude I see in the people being helped. The friendships I have made from working with other volunteers who share the same interest is very satisfying.

Jo:
I have been with the Renfrew and District Food Bank for just over a year now. I moved from the GTA to Renfrew County just 3 years ago after early retirement and really wanted to get involved with my new community in some positive way.
I work in the office and conduct intake/registration of clients when they arrive, but assist them as they shop for food on other days, too. I have also been lucky enough to participate in various fundraisers. I really enjoy working with all the friendly and fun volunteers at the food bank and I feel so grateful that am able to help those in our community who are experiencing such difficult times, right now.

Volunteering at the Renfrew and District Foodbank has been such an amazing experience! The other volunteers are so amazing and fun! Our clients are so appreciative and as we get to know them and earn their trust, they know that the Foodbank is a place of acceptance and nonjudgment, which allows them in some cases to share their stories. I have volunteered with many organizations, but I have to say the atmosphere at the Foodbank overflows with kindness, acceptance and great community spirit.

Another one of our awesome volunteers Cathy

I have been part of the food bank board since the initial task force met in 1988. I’ve done mostly background jobs, in the past writing receipts and thank you notes, helping stock shelves and making policy decisions. I currently and for many years have been taking the minutes at board meetings, and preparing for our annual meeting. I’ve always believed that we as a society and as individuals need to help people experiencing food insecurity. I am proud to be part of such a dedicated group of volunteers. During Covid I began doing intake with clients as well and it really is a pleasure to meet clients and get to know them a little bit. The food bank is an invaluable part of the community of Renfrew and I enjoy volunteering there.

Happy National Volunteer Week - here are two of our Warehouse Volunteers

Linda
I enjoy volunteering at the Foodbank, which allows me to help the lives of needy individuals, and families in our community who struggle to make ends meet.

Cathy
I volunteer at the Renfrew Food Bank because food insecurity is a real issue that is affecting many in our community. This is one way I can contribute to supporting those who need some assistance.

Happy National Volunteer Week- here is another of volunteers Shona

I believe that being kind and caring will motivate others to do the same and will lead to a larger more supportive community. So, I thought that volunteering my time in service of the Renfrew and District Foodbank would accomplish this. I was right!!! How wonderful to work with such an amazingly, happy group of dedicated people.

On National Volunteer Week we will be celebrating our volunteers that help to ensure our food bank is a vital part of our community. Up first is Pat

About three and a half years ago my wife and I started volunteering with the Renfrew and District Food Bank. In that time I have been involved with the pick up of food from our local grocery store partners, the distribution of food to our clients and have also joined the Board of Directors. This has been a most rewarding experience for me. The volunteers I serve with are wonderful, caring individuals as are the clients we serve. Not knowing where your next meal is coming from, or if it is coming, must be a terrible thing to experience. I feel privileged to be able to help provide some relief.

Thank You Pat for volunteering and giving of your time!!

We are thrilled to share that we’ve been accredited through Food Banks Canada’s Standards of Excellence program. This is a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication to providing our clients with the highest quality of service.
- The Food Banks Canada National Standards are designed as a baseline set of standards to which the food banking network holds itself accountable and benchmarks future performance improvement in client service and care, food operations, safe food
handling and more.
- The standards reflect the food banking networks' thought leadership and commitment to continually enhance our collective capabilities to relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow.
- We, along with the other exceptional, accredited organizations, are calling on other affiliate food banks from coast to coast to coast to join us as we continue our journey towards a Canada where no one goes hungry together.
- This is an important accomplishment for our organization. The Food Banks Canada Standards of Excellence provides a framework for food banks to share innovative practices and learn from one another.
- This benefits not only our organization, but also many others across the country serving their neighbours in need.
- This framework will help our organization and the entire food banking network thrive.

Through this process of becoming accredited, we have the opportunity to:

o Advance to an even stronger and more agile food banking system to deliver the best service to our neighbours in need.

o Activate shared learning to increase innovation across the network.

o Amplify the collective impact of the network on Canada’s food insecurity.
