Subject: Rob Kraushaar (Regina Street Team)
Dear Councillor,
I am writing to you with urgent concern for the future of the Regina Street Team, following the sudden dismissal of Rob Kraushaar, a leader whose presence has been absolutely vital to some of the most vulnerable people in our city.
The individuals served by the Street Team are human beings living with trauma, homelessness, addiction, and overwhelming systemic barriers. Many have been let down by institutions for years. When someone finally earns their trust, that bond is everything.
Rob earned that trust through lived experience, compassion, consistency, and genuine human connection.
During the recent discussion with Council, Judith Veresuk highlighted how difficult it is to find people with lived experience to do this frontline work. Yet in that same presentation, the fact that Rob — one of the only leaders with meaningful lived experience — had already been dismissed was never disclosed to Council. This raises serious concerns about the information provided.
The Street Team is not just a program. It is a lifeline. And Rob was the heart of it.
The relationships he built over two years cannot be simply replaced. Without him, the people he supported will suffer the most: individuals who cannot easily advocate for themselves, who will now feel abandoned by yet another system.
I am asking you to:
1. Request full transparency about the decision to dismiss Rob and why this information was not shared with Council during the BID discussion.
2. Ensure lived experience is not merely a talking point, but a valued and protected qualification in this program.
3. Advocate for a Street Team model rooted in compassion, harm reduction, and meaningful human connection — the values Rob built into its foundation.
4. Acknowledge Rob’s contributions and recognize the significant impact his absence will have on vulnerable community members.
If it is “hard to find lived experience,” then dismissing someone who embodied it is a question this community deserves answers to.
Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
