The Saskatchewan Marshalls announced it is developing a Specialized Response Unit.

This unit is set to be equipped with different tactical equipment, including sniper rifles, multi-shot launchers, ballistic shields, night-vision equipment, remotely operated hydraulic breaching tools and a Long-Range Acoustic Device (LRAD).

However, the Marshalls have also previously stated they don’t take 911 calls and they are not first on the scene.

The Marshalls have yet to define their mandate.

What exactly do the Marshalls do? Why do they need such specialized and expensive equipment?

These are questions that no one seems to know the answers to.

The Sask. Party has been wasting money on the Marshalls for years. To date they’ve only hired on 27 officers and have spent millions. Most of their new hires have been poached from existing police units or the RCMP.

It’s time for change.
