Changing lives through the work of our trained, professional staff and our incredible mentors. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Moose Jaw makes a positive difference in the lives of youth, by developing and implementing a broad range of mentoring programs for both in-school and outside of school. Serving as role models, our mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying i

n school and of having respect for family, peers and community. Each time we pair a child with a mentor, we start something incredible. A life changing relationship built on friendship, trust, and empowerment.

A strong mentoring relationship starts with a thoughtful intake process. At BBBS, every match is carefully considered and guided by trained caseworkers who take the time to understand each young person and volunteer.

Our matching process includes:
• Learning about a young person's interests, goals, personality, and needs
• Understanding a mentor's strengths, values, and availability
• Involving families throughout the process
• Considering shared experiences, cultural connections, and long-term compatibility

A successful mentoring match is built on a foundation of trust, mutual respect, and genuine connection - setting the stage for a future filled with possibility.

Growth happens when young people are encouraged to believe in what’s possible. Mentoring helps young people discover their strengths and build confidence. Once a match is created, mentors help youth step outside their comfort zones and pursue goals that matter to them.

Challenging growth can look like:
• Setting realistic but ambitious goals
• Encouraging persistence when setbacks occur
• Holding youth accountable with compassion
• Celebrating effort and progress along the way

When young people have someone who believes in their potential, they are more likely to believe in it themselves. Together, we help ignite potential and create opportunities for growth that can last a lifetime.

National Indigenous History Month is an opportunity to recognize and reflect on the histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we honour the strength and diversity of Indigenous communities. This month is also an invitation for non-Indigenous people to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful action toward truth, Reconciliation, and decolonization.

We remain committed to fostering relationships grounded in respect and accountability, walking alongside Indigenous Peoples in this ongoing work.

Meet In School Mentoring Match, Jackie (Mentor) and Charlotte (Mentee)! One of their favourite recent activities was making pink Oobleck together. Charlotte shared: “We created Oobleck. It was pink. We learned that it was a solid and a liquid which was super cool.”

When asked to describe their match in three words:
Charlotte said: “joyful - loving - awesome”
Jackie said: “smart - creative - amazing”

They even gave their match a team name: “Team Unique Unicorns - we are unique and Charlotte love’s unicorns” and Charlotte shared that, “Wednesday is the highlight of my week because we get to hang out.”

From science experiments to birthday lunches, this match continues to build a friendship filled with tons of laughter and fun!
Monthly are proudly supported by K+S Potash Canada! With their support, we are working together to empower the young people in our communities and create lasting, meaningful change.

Expressing care is the foundation of mentorship.
It shows up in small moments week-to-week. Like listening without judgment and remembering what matters to them.

For some young people, the presence of someone reliable is new, and that matters. Because when a young person knows they can count on someone to show up for them and believe in them, they dream bigger.

Be part of a child's story.
In the Big G Program, young people are matched with older adults who have time to give and life experience to share. It’s about creating space for connection across generations, and the impact that can come from it.

Our core work is simple and powerful. We build, support, and grow developmental relationships between young people and caring adult mentors. But what makes a relationship developmental? It’s more than just spending time together. It’s about the intentional, consistent, and empowering support that helps a young person thrive emotionally, socially, and academically - and our staff are with you for every step!

When a young person has someone in their corner, it ignites their potential, helping them realize what's possible.
