📣 Calling all soup contributors! 🥣 Soup After Dark - SAD was started to fill the food gap in downtown Regina during the five coldest months of the year. When Nate was told by nay-saying non-profits that it was too much money, no volunteers would come out, it is impossible to organize, no one would do it for free and it really wasn’t needed, he set out to prove them wrong and address the need.
S.A.D. serves a hot, dignified meal every day for 148 consecutive days from December until the end of April. The idea is based on the story of Stone Soup where everyone contributes a little of what they have and then there is enough food to feed everyone.
Year-one, Nate prepared, delivered and served soup every day, for over 80 consecutive days then the partnership with SaskPolytech Hospitality Services was developed and the culinary students prepared a portion of the soup starting in February 2023. Year-two the culinary students prepared soup every day for the 148 days. There were a few restaurants that contributed, namely The Copper Kettle and the Ahmadiyya Muslim community contributed food consistently.
Heading into year-three we need more restaurants, chefs and community to contribute soup to bolster each other, make sure it’s not too much for any individual or organization and to ensure there is enough food for those who need it.
We are currently looking for soup contributors from December 1, 2024 – April 27, 2025. Soup After Dark (SAD) fed 10,512 and 15,456 meals respectively the last two winters and the need is more than ever.
For now, DM here if you can help. TIA.
