MacGregor said he isn’t concerned that the current low oil-price environment will affect the refinery’s long-term economics. Oil prices will recover and diesel demand will be high for decades, he said.

“We have a plan. We’re well financed; we’re able to execute that plan.“If there’s any sunlight in the room, it’s us.”

Atco Energy Solutions has since acquired an extra 65 hectares of land at its Heartland Energy Centre site. It now has the potential to develop more than 40 salt caverns in total.
The caverns are being developed two kilometres underground in the Lotsberg salt formation.
