This Labour Day, permit yourself to keep things simple. A slower morning, some time outside or an afternoon without a packed schedule can be enough.

You don’t need to make every moment memorable. Sometimes being together is enough.

One of the biggest misconceptions about pregnancy support centres is that people only visit during a crisis.

The reality is much different.

Many people visit simply because they have questions. They want to understand their options better, prepare for a new baby, connect with community resources, or talk with someone who will listen without judgment.

Every journey into parenthood looks different, and so does the support each person needs.

Sometimes, the most valuable thing we can offer is information. Sometimes it is practical resources. Sometimes it is simply a conversation.

No matter where someone is in their journey, they deserve to feel informed, supported and cared for.

When an unexpected pregnancy happens, men can feel just as uncertain.

While the focus is often on the person who is pregnant, fathers, partners, and other men involved are navigating a life-changing experience as well.

You may be wondering what your role is, how you can best support your partner or what the future might look like. You may have questions, concerns or simply need someone to talk things through with.

That's why we offer programs designed specifically for men.

Through these programs, you'll have the opportunity to connect with a male mentor who can listen, answer questions and provide encouragement as you navigate this journey. Together, you'll explore healthy relationships, discuss your rights and responsibilities, and help you build the confidence to make informed decisions for yourself and those around you.

Every journey is different, but you do not have to navigate it without support.

Pregnancy and parenthood can bring a lot of emotions.

There may be days when you feel excited and confident, and others when you feel uncertain or overwhelmed. Both are completely normal.

When everything feels like too much, try not to focus on the whole journey. Instead, focus on the next step.

Maybe today that step is asking a question.

Maybe it's talking with someone you trust.

Maybe it's taking a moment to rest or reminding yourself that you don't have to have all the answers right now.

Parenthood isn't built in a single day. It's built one moment, one choice and one step at a time.

Be patient with yourself. You're doing better than you think.

For me, this recognition is more than a potential award for our organization—it's a powerful celebration of our entire community. This remarkable milestone belongs to each and every one of you. It honours every volunteer who dedicates their time, every donor who selflessly provides supplies, supports us financially, and prays for us, and every local partner who stands with us to build bridges of support across Central Alberta. Together, as a united community, we can continue to offer judgment-free, compassionate care, education, and practical assistance through our Maternity Home Program, reaching individuals and families at their most vulnerable moments.

AND - for the second year in a row, you voted for the Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre, which has been named the platinum winner by Community Votes Red Deer as both the Community Organization of the Year and the Non-profit of the Year for 2026!

As parents, it's easy to notice the moments when things don't go as planned.

The toys left on the floor. The sibling disagreements. The bedtime that takes longer than expected.

But what if we spent just as much time noticing what our children are doing well?

"I saw how kind you were to your sister."

"Thank you for helping me clean up."

"I noticed how hard you worked on that."

These small moments of encouragement are more powerful than we often realize. Positive reinforcement helps children build confidence, strengthens your connection and encourages the behaviours you'd like to see more often.

The next time your child does something thoughtful, kind or helpful, take a moment to tell them exactly what you noticed.

Sometimes, a few encouraging words can leave a lasting impression.

One of the biggest worries people have before reaching out is not knowing what to expect.

Will someone judge me?

Will I be pressured to make a decision?

Do I need to have everything figured out before I come in?

The answer is no.

When you meet with one of our trained client advocates, the conversation starts with you. We'll take the time to understand your situation, answer your questions and provide accurate information about all of your options, including parenting, adoption and abortion.

There is no pressure to make a decision during your visit. Our role is to provide a safe, compassionate space where you can explore your options, ask questions and make a well-informed decision at your own pace.

If additional support would be helpful, we can also connect you with trusted programs and community resources throughout Central Alberta.

Sometimes, knowing what to expect is all it takes to make that first step feel a little easier.
