๐Ÿ’™ THANK YOU, VOLUNTEERS! ๐Ÿ’™

We want to take a moment to say THANK YOU for everything you do! ๐Ÿ™Œ

April 19โ€“25, 2026 is National Volunteer Week, a time to celebrate volunteers across Canada.

Volunteers are vital to the programs and services we provide. Your time, energy, and compassion make a meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals and families we serve. Whether you are helping at events or supporting programs, your impact does not go unnoticed. Because of you, our community is stronger, more connected, and more inclusive. You help create a sense of belonging and hope for those who need it most. There is no such thing as small help, everything you do is meaningful and, in many cases, life-changing.

โœจWe truly appreciate all that you do to support our work and the clients we serve.โœจ

THANK YOU!

๐Ÿ“ฃ Stay tuned! We are planning an outdoor Volunteer Appreciation Event for all Care for Newcomers volunteers in late May or early June, as we wait for the weather to warm up. Please stay tuned for more details. We look forward to celebrating with you!

๐ŸŽ‰ Big News for Central Alberta! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ“ข April 7, 2026 โ€“ For Immediate Release

Weโ€™re excited to announce the launch of a new two-year project, Building Employer Capacity for Newcomer Integration, funded by the Government of Alberta!

๐Ÿ‘ฅ This initiative helps employers attract, hire, integrate, and retain skilled newcomer workersโ€”supporting both businesses and our growing community.

๐Ÿ’ก What does that look like?
โœ”๏ธ Hands-on support from a dedicated Workplace Integration Advisor
โœ”๏ธ Practical, tailored strategies to meet your workplace needs
โœ”๏ธ Workshops, coaching, and peer networking opportunities
โœ”๏ธ Access to tools and best practices to support long-term success

We know many employers are eager to hire newcomers, but challenges with onboarding, communication, and workplace integration can impact retention. This project is here to help bridge those gaps in a real, practical way.

๐ŸŒฑ This initiative also supports regional priorities like Red Deer D.R.I.V.E. and Central Alberta Firstโ€”helping build stronger, more inclusive, and resilient workplaces across our region.

๐Ÿš€ As businesses look to the future, this project offers a timely and practical pathway to success.

Last week, we collaborated with the Blackfalds Bulldogs to bring a group of newcomers to a hockey game, providing an amazing experience. For many participants - especially those from the Ukrainian community - it was special opportunity to cheer for a player who shares their background and is currently on the leaderboard. The energy, excitement and sense of belonging made this event truly memorable. Everyone was ready for a fun atmosphere with bells, signs and mini sticks, and we even had a chance after the game to meet players and collect signatures.

We were also exited to welcome special guest Nikita Ivashchenko from Blackfalds Bulldogs team to our ESL class. He visited our newcomers and delivered an engaging session. He shared insights about hockey in general and spoke about his personal journey as a hockey player. He also took time to visit our childminding kids - showing them hockey gear and playing with them - which made the experience even more special.

A big thank you to the Blackfalds Bulldogsfor such a smooth, welcoming and effective collaboration, your efforts made this experience truly special. Events like this help build connections, confidence and sense of community.
