A update on our WL61 build.

This weeks progress:
✅LT Guthrie was able to mount the pump and build the plumbing parts, and we are waiting on a few bits and pieces to wrap it up.
✅We reassembled the console and set up the cab with some basics such as our map books, visi vests, command board and related items.
✅One of our members came in an recharged the AC…gotta have AC 😉, thank you!
✅Laid down matting in all the compartments and shelves and test fit some equipment.

Next week our plan is to:
✅ Finish the pump work.
✅ We will test run the pump.
✅ Wire up the portable radios in the cab.
✅ Wire up the shore power.
✅ Load up the equipment and water.
✅ Reweigh the truck, have a CVI done and update the ICBC policy.
✅ Give the truck a good clean and a wax
✅ Get it in service!

Thanks to everyone who has helped us with this project and shout out to our community for supporting us to get these projects off the ground!

We are working to be as cost effective as possible and do what we can ourselves to save us some money.

Looking forward to having this truck ready to serve our community.

This weeks training was about air consumption and physical ability.

We set up a job related course for our members to work through while wearing their SCBA. The course was set out to have our members consume 2 full air cylinders which worked out to be about an hour and half of close to non stop work.

Why did we do this? We felt that these tasks would closely simulate working at a fire scene where we are stretching hose lines, dragging hose, moving a downed person, doing CPR, forcing entry into a building and carrying heavy items etc.

Doing physical tasks that closely relate to our job as firefighters is vital for us to help serve our community.

Well done gang!

On Friday we brought home Wildland 61 from Express Custom in Errington. The folks there did a great job on the body for us and will serve our amazing community for the next 20+ years.

Next up for the truck is to mount the pump, install the plumbing and do some final wiring on the body and chassis for shore power/radio chargers. Lucky for us to save some money not having to outsource this work, we are doing this in house and LT Guthrie had already started this Friday afternoon.

Our plan is to have the truck fully loaded up and in service in 2 weeks. We are looking forward to having this truck available for the upcoming summer fire season to better serve our community and the region as a whole.

Training this week consisted of First Resoonder First Aid skills review and our 2026 recruits are wrapped up their evaluations on Ladders / Ropes and Knots.

Being in a suburban/rural area we respond to a number of medical related incidents often before an ambulance arrives. These skills are perishable and it takes on going review and real world scenarios to remain sharp.

If you are interested in joining our department, we are recruiting. Please download and fill out and application at

Or pop into Station 61 located at 230 Hobbs Rd M to S 8-4pm, and we are also set up at the Meadwoood Store most Sundays from 130pm to 330pm. Our next recruit class is planned for October 2026.

Have a great weekend!

Big Shout out to the Ashling Dolly Varden and Pierce Way residents Committee who had 29 properties participate in a chipping event that their group organized.

The group had two meetings, one in December 2025, one in March 2026 and advanced signage the week before and a few emails too. We know this planning and commitment directly impacted the success of this Neighborhood event.

Way to go gang!
