As nomination packages are received, the City is updating the list of candidates on our website at princerupert.ca/election, to be followed by a final list of candidates to be posted with our official Notice of Election.

Public Notice is given as follows:
A SPECIAL VOTING OPPORTUNITY will be held on Thursday, October 15th, 2026 for qualified electors who are staff, patients or residents at the Prince Rupert Hospital from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and at Acropolis Manor from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The City of Prince Rupert uses the Provincial voters list for the list of electors. If you are not on the Provincial list of electors, you may register at the time of voting by completing the application form available at the voting place and making a declaration that you meet the requirements to be registered as set out below:
RESIDENT ELECTORS:
To register as a resident elector you must:
be 18 years of age or older on general voting day (October 17th, 2026);
be a Canadian citizen;
be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration (at time of voting);
be a resident of the City of Prince Rupert on the day of registration (at time of voting); and
not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS:
To register as a non-resident property elector you must:
be 18 years of age or older on general voting day (October 17th, 2026);
be a Canadian citizen;
be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day of registration (at time of voting);
be a registered owner of real property in the City of Prince Rupert for at least 30 days immediately before the day of registration (at time of voting);
not be entitled to register as a resident elector; and
not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or assent voting and not otherwise disqualified by law.
In addition, for non-resident property electors:
Voting is restricted to persons who are registered owners of the property, either as joint tenants or tenants in common, not individuals holding the property in trust for a corporation or other trust.
If more than one individual is registered owner of the property, only one of those individuals may, with the written consent of the majority of the individual owners, register as a non-resident property elector.
Electors may only register in relation to one parcel of real property, even if the elector owns multiple in the City.
To register at time of voting, resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity.
Non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the majority of the property owners.
TYPES OF DOCUMENTS THAT WILL BE ACCEPTED AS IDENTIFICATION
a) a Driverโs Licence;
b) an Identification Card such as a photo BC services card or a non-photo BC services card;
c) an Ownerโs Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Licence issued by ICBC;
d) a BC CareCard;
e) An Indian Status Card, Citizenship or membership card issued by a First Nation or the Metis Nation of BC;
f) a Social Insurance Number card;
g) a Citizenship Card;
h) a real property tax notice;
i) a credit card or debit card; or
j) a utility bill, (such as electricity, natural gas, water, telephone or cable services).
The above listed identification documents MUST be accepted by election officials. An election official may also accept other forms of documents that provide evidence satisfactory to the election official (e.g., a valid, current passport).

REQUESTING A MAIL BALLOT PACKAGE
If you wish to vote by mail, please contact the Elections Office for a mail ballot registration form, or go to princerupert.ca/election to download the form directly. The City must receive your request form to City Hall by mail (424 3rd Avenue West, Prince Rupert, BC, V8J 1L7), telephone (250) 627 2898, fax (250) 627 0999 or email [email protected] no later than 4:00 pm on October 2nd if it is to be mailed to you. If your request is complete and you qualify to receive a ballot, one will be mailed to you as soon as ballots are available. After October 2nd, requests for mail ballots that will be picked up from City Hall will be received until October 14th at 4:30 p.m. Mail ballots must be received at City Hall by no later than 8 pm on Saturday, October 17th. Use the City Hall drop slot after hours.
