Safety tip: When using a gas detection monitor it is good to know what the regulated exposer levels are for the substance that you are working around. The two main exposer limits are :TWA and STEL. TWA is a workers Time Weighted Average. This is the average amount of a substance that a worker is aloud to be exposed to based on an 8 hour work day. The STEL is the Short Term Exposure Limit this is the acceptable average amount of a substance that a worker is aloud to be exposed to in a short time frame. The short time frame is usually 15 minutes. For example the TWA for H2S in Saskatchewan is 10 PPM and the STEL is 15 PPM.

Safety Tip: When working around an Atmosphere that is Hazardous it is important to have a gas detection monitor for the workers in and near that environment. Most monitors are 4 head monitors which means that detect four different atmospheric conditions. The four common condition they detect are H2S, Lower Explosive limit, Oxygen and Carbon Monoxide. When using a gas monitor it is very important that you bump test the monitor before every use and make sure they are calibrated on a regular basis. Most monitors will tell you how many days left until the monitor has to be calibrated again.
