On May 12, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report that an individual was in possession of unmarked ci******es.

An officer went to a residence on 8th Street Northwest in Portage la Prairie and was invited inside, where 19 packs of contraband ci******es were found.

The contraband ci******es were seized and a 62-year-old Portage la Prairie male was ticketed for possession of unmarked to***co under the To***co Tax Act. The ticket carries a $2,542 fine.

RCMP remind the public that to***co not purchased, possessed, acquired, marked, stamped, transported, stored or sold in accordance with federal and provincial legislation is illegal. This illegal activity can create a significant revenue stream for organized crime.

On May 8, at approximately 4:10 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of a suspected break-in at a business on the 2700-block of Saskatchewan Avenue West in Portage la Prairie.

Officers arrived at the scene and learned a male and female arrived inside a vehicle that stopped behind the building where the business is located. They then loaded more than $10,000 worth of items and work equipment into the vehicle – including building tools, batteries, a hand saw and a grass trimmer.
The pair then got back inside the car and fled.

Officers noted all doors to the business appeared locked and secured, with no signs of forced entry.

RCMP continued to investigate and learned the break-in and theft had actually occurred at an adjacent business.

Officers also identified the two suspects and executed a search warrant at a residence on 18th Street Northwest. Officers recovered the stolen items and seized nearly two grams of fentanyl, a half-gram of crystal m**h, drug paraphernalia and $780 in cash.

Four people inside the home were arrested.

A motorist drove fast and is hopefully now furious with himself after he was pulled over by RCMP near Portage la Prairie.

The driver – a 35-year-old male from Stone Creek, Ont. – was clocked travelling an astounding 183 km/h in his SUV on the Trans-Canada Highway shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicle was pulled over on the stretch of highway that bypasses Portage la Prairie, where the speed limit is 100 km/h.

The driver was ticketed $1,136 for speeding and another $672 for careless driving.

We once again remind all motorists to obey the rules of the road, including the posted speed limit. Driving this fast drastically reduces the amount of time motorists have to react, putting their lives – and the lives of others – at risk.

UPDATE: This individual has been safely located. We thank everyone for their assistance.

RCMP are reminding motorists to slow down, after a 73-year-old Dauphin driver was clocked driving 163 km/h near Portage la Prairie early Wednesday afternoon.

The speed limit on that section of the highway, near Road 42 West, is 100 km/h.

It took RCMP approximately five kilometres to catch up to the driver before the driver pulled over and stopped, with the female telling the officer she didn’t notice the lights and sirens behind her. She also said she didn’t realize she was going as fast as she was.

The driver received $1,547 in fines – including an $875 ticket for speeding and a $672 ticket for careless driving. She also received a serious offence notice under the Highway Traffic Act, which could result in the suspension or cancelation of her driver’s license following a review.

Motorists are reminded to obey the rules of the road, including the speed limit. It may take you a bit longer to get to your destination, but you’ll get there safely and without a significant dent to your bank account.

Portage la Prairie RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying suspects wanted in connection with a break-and-enter last summer in Macgregor.

The incident occurred just before 5 a.m. on June 26, 2025, when a white GMC truck pulled into the parking lot of a store on Hampton Street East and aggressively backed into the warehouse door – creating a pathway for suspects to enter the store and steal a number of items. The suspects then fled.

Since that time, Portage la Prairie RCMP have continued to investigate the incident. RCMP are releasing enhanced images of the truck used in the break and enter – which has a Manitoba license plate – and an image of one of the two suspects being sought in connection with the crime.

Anyone who may be able to identify the suspect, the whereabout of the truck or have any other information about the incident is asked to contact Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204-857-4445 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via a secure online tip at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
