Manitoba First Nations Police Service We proudly serve and protect 12 First Nation communities in Manitoba. Learn more at www.MFNP.ca We are the oldest First Nation Police Service in Canada!

The Manitoba First Nations Police Service provides First Nations police services by First Nations people. The members of the Manitoba First Nations Police Service proudly serve First Nation communities throughout Manitoba. In doing this, we are guided by our understanding that First Nations communities are unique, and their needs vary from community to community. We believe that policing is more than the enforcement of laws. It is also about finding creative ways to deal with the many challenges facing our communities. As a result, our approach to building public safety is rooted in developing meaningful partnerships with stakeholders who share our vision and who represent the community. In all we do, we maintain a deep respect for First Nations customs and traditions, and we have built our processes and policies around these traditions. As a police service, we are held to a high professional standard and are accountable to our governing Police Commission. Our sworn and civilian members have a vested interest in the safety and wellbeing of the 8 First Nation communities currently served by the MFNPS. We are fast becoming the police service of choice for Manitoba’s First Nation communities.

“Safe communities – well protected and served with respect and integrity.”

Throughout the month of October, the Manitoba First Nations Police Service has attended health fairs in Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation, Waywayseecappo First Nation, and Gambler First Nation.

Our members had great experiences connecting with members of each community and visiting vendor booths. One of our members even got their flu shot at Birdtail's health fair!

A huge thank you to Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation, Waywayseecappo First Nation, and Gambler First Nation for welcoming and including us. We had a great time at each event!

Last week, Manitoba First Nations Police Service members gave "Street Drugs, Gangs, and Community" presentations in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation.

The presentations focused on raising awareness, educating our youth, and promoting safer, healthier choices in our community.

Constable Medwick, Constable West, and Community Outreach Liaison Jo-Ann Helgason delivered the presentation to staff at Sandy Bay Child and Family Services.

Jo-Ann and Constable West also delivered the presentation at Isaac Beaulieu Memorial School, from which Constable West graduated. She is a great example to current students of what they can achieve by making positive choices and setting goals for themselves!

Thank you to everyone who participated and supported these important discussions!

Today, federal Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree and Manitoba Minister of Justice and Attorney General Matt Wiebe jointly announced an investment of close to $121 million in the Manitoba First Nations Police Service over four years, along with a $42 million investment in the Manitoba First Nations Safety Officer Program.

We would like to thank both Minister Wiebe and Minister Anandasangaree for coming to Brandon to share this exciting announcement. MFNPS is grateful for the investment from the Government of Canada and the Government of Manitoba, has helped our service continue to grow and strengthen.

"On behalf of our police service, I want to thank the Governments of Canada and Manitoba for your continued investment into First Nation policing and community safety," MFNPS Chief Jason Colon said during the press conference this morning.

Chief Colon said there is still work to be done.

"The expectations placed on our police service are the same as any other police service in Manitoba, but we need the capacity to meet those expectations. Where someone lives should not determine the level of policing or investigational services they receive," Chief Colon said.
