This week we had a presentation from our Exchange student Alix.
Alix comes from France and has been with us since August of last year. As her year with us is coming to an end, she came and shared a presentation of her experience in Canada.

Staying with 2 different host families, she made really good friends with her host siblings and always had something to do and always felt included in the families.
This exchange trip included trips with both her host families and within the Rotary exchange that took Alix to Niagra Falls, Elkhorn Resort, Melford Saskatchewan, Churchill and the Western trip.
Memorable moments were dogsledding and how extremely cold it was in the winter!
Alix says everyone in Portage was so friendly and really made her feel included and welcomed. She looks forward to returning to Canada in the future.

Alix you are friendly, smart, outgoing and up for anything. You are the ideal representative for your country as well as Rotary and we are proud to have hosted such a bright young lady with our club. Thank you for the great year!

This week we had some help spreading mulch and weeding from some of our sponsors at the Duck Pond! Southport Aerospace, Homestead Co-op and Richardson Milling were all out with their work gloves on helping keep the space beautiful! These sponsors all took on quite the task in helping us maintain the beauty of the Duck Pond and we are so so so grateful!

At our joint Chamber/Rotary luncheon this week, we heard from former Portager and Real Estate Developer Sandy Shindleman.

On the spot, Sandy announced they will donate as a “Legacy Builder” donor to the new Rotary Playspace! What an incredible surprise to everyone.

He spoke of Shindicos recent developments and new acquisitions across Canada. With challenges related to building locally, they have taken their buildings outside of Manitoba and increased their portfolio across Canada.

Today we had a presentation from fellow Rotarian and CEO of Southport Aerospace Centre; Nathan Peto. Nathan spoke on the upcoming changes they are going to be seeing out at Southport with the Future Aircrew Training construction schedule. There were slides of the new buildings we’ll expect to see being built and the future layout of the land as well.
Great presentation Nathan, we’re excited to see there will be so much new growth at Southport!
