San Juan River Eco Reserve A refuge for wildlife where the San Juan river meets the Pacific Ocean, two hours west of Victoria near Port Renfrew, BC.

Purpose: To protect and restore habitat for elk, river otters, mink, harbour seals, salmon, trout, eagles and more.

Roosevelt Elk, the largest deer in North America. Over-hunting nearly wiped out the herd in the San Juan estuary, but they were reintroduced and now they are thriving! Photos contributed by a friend who set up motion-triggered cameras on game trails in the eco-reserve.
