The Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter is medium sized shelter located just outside of historic Port Perry on the shores of Lake Sugog. We have a large grass dog yard for exercise and playtime, indoor/outdoor kennels and two cat adoption rooms. We pride ourselves on providing all animals with daily one on one attention from our caring staff. All animals have a warm soft bed with toys and treats to kee

p them as comfortable and relaxed as possible while they wait for their forever homes. We closely screen all pets and potential adopters so we may place the most suitable pet with your and your family. Donations we receive ensure that we are able to spay or neuter, vaccinate and microchip all animals prior to adoption. We are also happy to accept donations such as towels and blankets, cat and dog toys, canned cat and kitten food. https://www.scugog.ca/en/live-and-play/Animal-Services.aspx?_mid_=102594

A FINAL MANAGEMENT UPDATE 🍞

Well… I have some important news.

After months of running the Cat Relations Department, introducing roommates, answering comments, managing the humans, and generally keeping this place organized…

I am going home.

That’s right. I have officially been promoted to Forever Cat. 🏠❤️

Apparently someone finally reviewed my qualifications and decided I was the right candidate.

I would like to thank everyone who followed along with my roommate files, commented on my posts, supported my roommates, and kept asking when I was going to find my forever home.

It turns out the answer was Friday. Now, before I leave, I have one final piece of management business to take care of.

Someone needs to take over. I considered several candidates.

The dogs were too chaotic. The cats were unavailable. The humans were, obviously, never an option.

So I found someone who I believe will fit the role perfectly.

They’ve been here the entire time.

They see everything. They hear everything. And they’ve been quietly observing the shelter this whole time. I think they’re ready.

Who did I hire? You’ll have to wait and see.

I’m not giving away all of my management secrets before I leave.

As for me, I have a new position to report to: Being someone’s spoiled cat.

I think I’m going to be excellent at it.

Thank you for following my management career. It’s been a pleasure.

The shelter will be in good hands. Probably...

Dog Department Files 🐾🍞

I have made a slight adjustment to the Cat Relations Department. As you may know, I prefer to be the only animal in my department. Unfortunately, the shelter also has dogs.

I have decided this is a management problem, not a Toast problem. So I hired help.

Today, I would like to introduce my first Dog Department employee.

🐾Harley Quinn🐾

According to her file, Harley is 7 years old, approximately 60 lbs, and a Boxer/American Bulldog mix. The humans describe her as happy, sassy, wiggly, and apparently equipped with a very large heart.

They also tell me she loves being around people and is always ready for a good romp in the yard. So naturally, I have appointed her Senior Human Relations Manager. Seems appropriate.

The humans also mentioned that Harley has had a few difficult chapters before arriving here. Through no fault of her own, she’s looking for a home again.

There are a few things her future humans should know, because apparently transparency is important in management. Harley was previously treated for urinary incontinence but hasn’t needed medication for quite some time and hasn’t shown any concerns while she’s been with us.

The humans also told me she has reportedly had some resource guarding around high-value toys and treats in the past. They haven’t seen that behaviour here, but they’re happy to discuss her history with anyone interested in giving Harley her forever home.

As for what Harley is looking for?

A loving home. A soft landing. Someone who enjoys a happy, goofy girl with a Boxer smile. And someone who is prepared to provide a permanent position.

Harley is currently accepting applications for the position of Forever Dog. 🐾

I have reviewed her file. She seems qualified. I will be continuing to manage the Cat Department from a safe distance.

The Dog Department can handle itself. This is called delegation.

Toast's Roommate Files #13

I have another roommate to introduce.

This is Freddie.

Freddie is 3 years old, neutered, orange, and apparently has a lot to say. A lot.

The humans describe him as a “loud guy.”

I believe this is their polite way of saying he has never encountered a conversation he didn’t feel the need to participate in.

If you are talking… Freddie has something to add.

If you stop talking… Freddie will remind you that the conversation isn’t over.

And if food is involved? Well… You will definitely be hearing from him.

The humans tell me he is actually a very sweet guy who loves attention. So, underneath all the opinions, announcements, and food-related complaints, there is a very affectionate roommate.

There is just one small issue. Freddie does not enjoy other cats.

In fact, he has decided that sharing the cat room is an excellent opportunity to recreate a WWE match.

The humans have informed me that this is not an acceptable roommate activity.

I agree. We have rules.

No wrestling. No body slams. No entering the ring without authorization.

Because of this, Freddie would do best as the ONLY animal in the home.

Honestly, I think he just wants a place where he can have everyone’s attention without having to compete for it.

And perhaps the last word. Although I cannot promise him that. I already have that position.

A MESSAGE FROM MANAGEMENT

Following Friday’s tour, I have received a surprising amount of positive feedback. Apparently, people enjoyed my work. I have therefore decided to conduct a performance review.

Areas of success:
✔️ Introduced several roommates
✔️ Gave an extremely professional tour
✔️ Increased awareness of the Cat Relations Department
✔️ Maintained excellent hair
✔️ Continued to look handsome under difficult working conditions

Areas requiring improvement: None identified at this time.

I have reviewed the evidence. I appear to be doing an excellent job.

The humans may disagree. They are entitled to their opinion.

It is simply incorrect.

Thank you to everyone who watched the tour, left a comment, shared it, or followed along.

I’ll be continuing my work of introducing roommates and finding them suitable humans.

Unfortunately, the department continues to have vacancies.

So I’ll be getting back to work… Someone has to.

Acting Director of Cat Relations

P.S. I have been informed that I am, in fact still available for adoption. Apparently, despite my extensive experience, excellent leadership skills, and proven social media performance... I remain unemployed. I am choosing to view this as a temporary administrative error.

The humans are still taking applications and management will be reviewing them. (I am management).

Chandler

Age: approx. 5 years old
Breed: Rottweiler mix
Weight: Approx. 70 lbs
S*x: male (neutered)
Adoption Fee: $200

Chandler arrived as a stray July 2026. We have not tested him with cats, children, or other dogs. When walking by cat rooms he seems indifferent. And he can pass by other dog kennels well, so long as the other dog reacts respectfully.

Chandler can be a vocal guy—barking is his favourite way to communicate! He loves to run, play, and have fun.
His idea of the perfect day? A sandbox to dig in, a ball to chase, and a person willing to run around and chase him right back. Basically, Chandler is looking for someone who enjoys life at full speed!

Adopted!! ❤️

Meet Moira 🐾
Age: 2 years old
Gender: Female, spayed
Colour: Grey & white
Breed: Ragdoll

Moira has been with us since June 1, 2026, after being returned due to inappropriate litterbox use. Since arriving, we have taken the time to get to know her and investigate what may have been causing the issue—and we’ve learned a lot about this beautiful girl!

Moira is affectionate, calm and loves the comforts of a cozy spot. She also absolutely loves having her beautiful coat brushed! She is happiest roaming around the adoption room in a quiet environment, rubbing up against staff when she is ready for attention or climbing up and down her cat tree.

As part of our investigation into her litterbox concerns, Moira was tested for urinary crystals and infection. Her testing showed that her issue was not urinary-related, but instead associated with a calcified area outside of her bladder. She can live comfortably with this calcified area- it is not a concern per our veterinarian.

An ultrasound also showed that Moira has small kidneys, IBD and typhlitis. She is now on a management plan for these conditions and is doing very well. Her typhlitis has been treated and has not returned.

Moira currently eats a hydrolyzed renal-support diet along with a probiotic to help support her IBD and kidney health. Her adopters will need to be committed to continuing this diet.

What kind of home are we looking for for Moira?
- A quiet home: A busy or stressful environment may aggravate her medical conditions.
- No other animals: We feel Moira will do best as the only pet in the home, where she won't have the added stress of living with other animals.
- A commitment to her diet: Her adopter must be willing to continue her prescribed veterinary diet and probiotic.

Moira is a sweet, beautiful girl who has been through a lot, and we are looking for a calm, loving home where she can settle in and continue to thrive.
