Fire Safety at Home 🏠

Are you prepared if a fire happens at home?

House fires can spread in minutes. Taking a few simple steps now can save lives later:

🔥 Clean your chimney – built-up creosote is a major fire hazard.
🔥 Test your smoke detectors every month and change batteries regularly.
🔥 Have a family evacuation plan – know at least two ways out of every room.
🔥 Practice fire drills together – a plan is only useful if everyone knows what to do.

Fire safety starts before the smoke alarm sounds. 🚨

What is ESS?

Emergency Support Services (ESS) provides short-term assistance to people displaced by disasters such as fires, floods, or evacuations. ESS helps with shelter, food, clothing, and other essentials while longer-term support is arranged. Volunteers are trained to respond quickly, offering comfort and stability when it’s needed most.

June is National Indigenous History Month - a time to honour the cultures, traditions, and strength of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Today, we also mark the 10-year anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s release of its 94 Calls to Action.

There are over 200 First Nations in BC with distinct languages, cultures, values, traditions, world views and customs. And Métis people and culture are a vital part of the fabric of our province. This month, and every month, we recognize and celebrate the knowledge, leadership, and cultural richness of Indigenous Peoples. https://declaration.gov.bc.ca/
