Job Title: Trail Builder
Location: Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Nova Scotia (Current Project)
Overview:
We are building a team of skilled and passionate Trail Builders to contribute to the creation of unforgettable outdoor experiences for visitors. The initial focus is on projects in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, however in the future - travel beyond to other provinces will be required. This is seasonal work, however for the right applicants, we are creating winter employment opportunities as well.
Position Overview:
As a Trail Builder, you will play a pivotal role in the construction, maintenance, and improvement of all forms of trails.
Working alongside a team of dedicated professionals, you will help in ex*****on of prescribed and designed trail building, construction of re-routes, remediation of retired trails and these projects will shape the park's trail system. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in stunning natural environments, collaborate with a supportive team, and contribute to the conservation and creation of trails.
Responsibilities:
Construct new trails, including clearing vegetation, grading, and building bridges and structures, while adhering to and exceeding industry standards, guidelines and environmental standards.
Construction of new routes, as well as remediation of retired existing trails, including erosion control, trail surface improvements, and signage installation.
Operate various tools and equipment safely and efficiently, such as chainsaws, brush cutters, excavators, and hand tools. Training to be provided for all tools and equipment.
Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with park regulations and occupational health and safety standards at all times.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in trail construction, maintenance, or related outdoor work is preferred.
Proficient in operating trail construction tools and equipment desirable, however training will be provided for all tools and equipment.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and challenging terrain.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and guidelines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Valid driver's license.
