🎣 FISH SANCTUARY REMINDER 🎣

Please be advised that fishing is prohibited within the designated fish sanctuary area from the fish ladder to the rail bridge until October 14, 2026.

The restricted area extends north of Highway 401, past the fish ladder, and south past the Robinson (Highway 2) area, off Mill and Queen Streets.

⚠️ Fishing within a fish sanctuary during a closed time is an offence under Section 8(1).

Set fine: $250
Total payable: $305

Individuals exercising constitutionally protected First Nation fishing rights may be exempt from these restrictions where applicable.

Please respect the fish sanctuary and posted restrictions. These measures help protect local fish populations and support their continued sustainability.

BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY

School is back in session next week, which means our roads, sidewalks, school zones and crosswalks are once again busy with students making their way to and from school.

The Port Hope Police Service is reminding everyone to use extra caution, especially during the busy morning arrival and afternoon dismissal times. Children can be excited, distracted and sometimes unpredictable, so drivers should always be prepared to slow down and stop.

Drivers are reminded to reduce their speed in school zones, watch carefully for children entering or crossing the roadway, obey crossing guards, and always stop for pedestrians at designated crossings. Please put your phone away, avoid distractions and give yourself some extra time to get where you’re going.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to talk with children about travelling to school safely. Remind them to use sidewalks and designated crosswalks whenever possible, look both ways before crossing, follow crossing signals and the direction of crossing guards, and avoid distractions such as phones or headphones while crossing the road.

Students riding bicycles or scooters should also remain alert, follow the rules of the road and watch carefully for vehicles entering or exiting driveways and parking lots.

We will all see increased traffic around our local schools over the coming weeks. A little patience and extra attention can make a big difference.

Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember the lives lost to overdose, stand with those who are struggling, and recognize the families, friends and communities impacted by the ongoing overdose crisis.

Behind every statistic is a person; someone who was loved, valued and mattered. Their lives deserve to be remembered, and those who are struggling deserve compassion, support and hope.

We also recognize the importance of reducing stigma and reminding our community that help is available and it’s never too late to reach out.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, please reach out for support. 💜

The Municipality is not aware of any official event scheduled under this name, nor has any municipal property been booked for such an event.
