Due to today’s fire on Cavan Street, some nearby residents may notice discolouration in their drinking water. High water use from fire hydrants, especially those connected to cast iron watermains, can disturb the pipes. This may cause the water to appear yellow or rusty.

Please note that while the water may not look appealing, it remains safe to drink and is regularly tested.

If you experience discoloured water, we recommend running your cold water tap for a few minutes until it clears. If the discolouration continues, please contact the Municipality.

Please be advised that Cavan Street (from Highland Drive to Barrett Street) is closed due to a large overnight fire at the former File Factory (121 Cavan Street).

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and the road will remain closed while the investigation is taking place over the course of the next several days.

Recently, local schools were invited to nominate students ages 7 to 10 who demonstrated kindness, heroism, or resiliency within their school communities. These were students who uplifted their peers, showed compassion in everyday moments, or overcame personal challenges with courage. We’re proud to announce that Beatrice Strong Public School submitted the winning nominations for our "Chief for the Day" program!

Our winners had an unforgettable day, starting with a special ride to school in a pumper fire truck. Their classmates also got in on the excitement with a presentation featuring the aerial truck. At the end of the school day, they were picked up for another ride (this time in the aerial) before heading back to Station 1. There, they took part in hands-on firefighter training, learning about gear, fire hoses, and more. The day wrapped up in true firefighter fashion with a favourite on-scene meal: pizza!

Thank you to everyone involved in making this day so special, especially CNL who donated the experience. So much fun was had by all, and it’s safe to say we may have inspired some future firefighters.
