Whycocomagh Boil Water Advisory Lifted – June 12

The Municipality of Inverness County would like to notify users of the Whycocomagh water system that the Boil Water Advisory is no longer in effect as of today, June 12, at 3:30p.m.

As a result of the Advisory being lifted, the water voucher program will end, and outstanding vouchers will not be honoured. Any Whycocomagh residents who would like to collect water at the scheduled water pick-up today may still do so at the Whycocomagh Fire Department from 3:30p.m. - 6:30p.m.

The Municipality would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the Whycocomagh Volunteer Fire Department and Whycocomagh Co-op for partnering on resident support programs, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality for assisting with sourcing water when the advisory came into effect, and the businesses and residents of Whycocomagh for their patience, cooperation, and adaptability. The Municipality will continue to work towards securing a sustainable long-term solution for Whycocomagh’s residents.

The Municipality of Inverness County is taking an important step toward modernizing critical infrastructure in the community of Inverness. Phase One of the Inverness Central Avenue Rebuild Project is set to begin construction late June. Here's what residents need to know:

• The Inverness Central Avenue Rebuild project will bring new water and wastewater infrastructure, improved pedestrian pathways, beautification, and a new roadway.
• Phase One extends from Broad Cove Banks Road to James Street. Construction is set to begin later this month and continue through December 2026.
• Construction will create temporary impacts for residents, businesses, commuters, and visitors.
• Future phases are planned to extend to the Inverness County Centre for the Arts driveway, subject to market volatility and contractor availability.

Construction is inconvenient, especially in the summertime. We want to keep residents, businesses, commuters, and visitors of Inverness informed. Visit https://invernesscounty.ca/development-projects/centralaverebuild/ as your central source for information and to sign up for the Project Newsletter. Also, stay tuned as we will announce details for a public open house and a Project Information Centre in the coming weeks.

The Get Active team, in partnership with the Jr. NBA, has wrapped up another fantastic spring basketball season, with 171 youth athletes taking part in programs in Inverness, Margaree, and Port Hood.

Throughout the season, participants brought enthusiasm and teamwork to the court, helping create a positive and exciting experience for all involved!

A special thank you goes out to the amazing volunteers who helped make this season possible: James Shaw, the Margaree Mountain Lions volunteers, David Ryan, Neil MacQuarrie, Phil Blackwood and the Inverness Minor Basketball program.

We are so proud of everything our athletes accomplished in this program and can’t wait to see them back on the court next season!

Today, June 11, marks the International Day of Play. As we celebrate, we are reminded that play isn't just about having fun, but it's how children learn, grow, build confidence, and make friends.

This year's theme, "Protect Play, Protect Childhood", reminds us how important it is to make sure all children have safe, inclusive, and accessible opportunities to play. The Get Active team is proud to present programs where every child gets the chance to explore, be active, use their imagination, and experience the joy that comes from play.

The goal of Get Active is to help create those opportunities in our communities and to support children and families in staying active and connected. As we celebrate International Day of Play, we encourage everyone to take part in the many programs, events, and activities happening throughout Inverness County this summer.

Head to invernesscounty.ca/services/recreation to find both the June flyer and the Get Active Summer Programming Guide!
