For 11 years now, the wonderful Fort Langley Lions Club has given to support prevention workshops for kids in their community. With their most recent donation, they have given $5,500 to help kids learn how to keep safe from sexual exploitation. THANK YOU so much!

At PLEA, we believe lasting impact starts with a strong foundation 💙

Supporting youth, children, and families takes more than passion. It takes accountability, transparency, strong leadership, and a commitment to doing the work well.
We’re proud to hold the Imagine Canada Accreditation Trustmark and be part of the campaign. For us, accreditation is more than a badge. It reflects our ongoing dedication to strong governance, financial accountability, ethical fundraising practices, and continuous learning and growth as an organization.

As the only national accreditation framework built by nonprofits, for nonprofits, the Imagine Canada Standards Program helps strengthen trust with our donors, partners, and community. The trust our donors and supporters place in us is vital to our mission, and accreditation is one of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to operating with integrity, accountability, and care.

We’re grateful to everyone who supports PLEA’s work and helps us continue showing up for the young people and families we serve every day.

Strong Foundation. Stronger Impact. 💪

In March, BC introduced significant changes to the Intimate Image Protection Act (IIPA) increasing the maximum damages victims can claim and stronger protection to their identity. These increased measures send a strong message that intimate-image abuse and sexual exploitation are taken very seriously and that offenders will face harsh legal consequences.

Read our new blog post to learn about these changes, the supports available for those who’ve had their intimate image shared without consent, and how to apply for a Take Down order.

A recent investigation in Northern Ontario is shining a light on the growing dangers children and youth face online, including the rise of AI deepfakes. Cybertip.ca is reporting a 125% increase in reports of of AI-generated child abuse materials between 2022-2025.

As educators, parents, and community members, we all play a role in prevention. Conversations about online safety and grooming tactics are more important than ever.

What you can do: talk to your child about online safety and the apps they are using. Remind them that they can come to you if they need help. You can find tips on how to have these conversations on our website at https://www.childrenofthestreet.com/resources/

Remember! Online child sexual exploitation is a serious crime, even when it’s created using AI . If a youth is affected by online exploitation, contact Cybertip.ca or your local police department.

Today, on Child and Youth Mental Health Day, we recognize that mental health and safety go hand in hand, both online and offline. 💗

At Children of the Street, we know that online exploitation and unsafe digital experiences can have a serious impact on a young person’s mental health and well-being. Feelings of anxiety, fear, shame, isolation, and loss of trust can deeply affect children and youth.

Prevention starts with education, awareness, and connection. Young people are safer when they understand boundaries, recognize warning signs, and feel comfortable asking trusted adults for help.

Parents, caregivers, educators, and communities all play an important role. Open, judgment-free conversations can help children and youth feel supported, informed, and empowered to stay safe online.

Together, we can continue creating safer spaces where young people feel heard, protected, and supported. 💗

Leave a Legacy Month 💗

Leaving a legacy isn’t about what you leave behind… it’s about what you leave ahead.

Something that says: I was here. I cared. I helped protect what matters.

This May, during Leave a Legacy Month in Canada, we invite you to consider the lasting impact you can make by including Children of the Street in your will.

Your legacy can help prevent the sexual exploitation of children and youth through education, awareness, and advocacy, and create safer communities for years to come.

There are simple ways to leave a gift:

• A stated dollar amount
• A percentage of your residual estate
• A specific asset, such as securities or other marketable property

Every gift, no matter the size, helps protect young people and build a safer future.

📱 Talking about online safety with young people can feel uncomfortable sometimes but these conversations matter.

With recent changes to B.C.’s intimate-image legislation, stronger protections and supports are now available for people impacted by intimate-image abuse, including youth.

At Children of the Street, we talk with youth, parents, caregivers, and educators every day about online safety, consent, boundaries, and exploitation. And the reality is: young people are already navigating these situations online.

As technology and AI continue to evolve, it’s more important than ever to create safe, open spaces for conversations without shame or judgment. Young people need to know they can ask questions, reach out for help, and that sharing an intimate image without consent is never OK.

Education, awareness, and supportive conversations all play an important role in prevention and keeping youth safe online.

If you or someone you know needs support, the Intimate Images Protection Service is available online or by phone at 1-833-688-4381.
