I have been a seamstress for many years sewing many things as a hobby. I am a certified Personal Support worker working in Long Term Care facilities and have seen many different ways clothing has been made to adaptive for elderly people.
Some made poorly and uncomfortable for the resident. From dressing residents myself with their adaptive clothing, I have seen ways were I can make it more comfortable for them and easier for the caregivers to dress elderly in vulnerable positions so to not disrupt them as much while providing care.
Adaptive clothing helps make difficult dressing easier and more convenient. I have seen where adaptive clothing benefits the person when it comes to giving care and not moving them so much to disrupt them. Working in homes myself as a caregiver, many times throughout the day I would notice the need to adjust certain clothing because the way the adaptive clothing made has shifted on the resident.
I can take almost all clothing and make it adaptable so they can still wear their stylish clothing. Open back options are available for those who might be wheelchair bound and are still looking for stylish options for work. Open back pants and skirts are useful for caregivers as they provide the ability to change someone in a standing or laying position.
I am mindful of one’s pressure points when making the adaptive clothing to ensure it will not disrupt the person or cause any sores. I have seen a variety of elderly people in homes in need of adaptive clothing with many limitations in certain areas of their body. One of the hardest items to put on a resident with limitations is a regular bra. If the resident cannot lift their arm to high, I have always felt bad trying to get the bra on as it causes stress on the resident. I highly recommend adaptive bras For people with limitations.
I can do pants, t-shirts, sweaters, hoodies, long sleeve shirts, bras, nightgowns, Pajama’s, aprons, and anything else you can think of.
