BURN PERMIT REQUIRED STARTING MAY 1
(April 30th)
A few fire departments across the island, including the Bay De Grave Regional Fire Department and the Marystown Volunteer Fire Department, have issued a public notice advising residents that, effective May 1, all open fires will be prohibited.
According to the departments, individuals wishing to burn will be required to obtain a permit from forestry authorities before doing so. The measure is being put in place to reduce fire risks as conditions become more prone to wildfire activity.
Residents are urged to follow the regulations and ensure they have the proper authorization before lighting any fires.
Fires in approved fire pits are permitted as long as the daily fire rating permits - https://www.gov.nl.ca/fal/public-education/forestry/forest-fires/fire-hazard-map/
