‼️Calling all artists!! Looking for a fun way to get involved in Home Town Takeover Canada?

The producer's have just put out a call that they are looking for visual artists (10 people total) who work with acrylic paint for a fun community installation project for the show.

They are open to various artist styles and have parameters for the project. If you're interested please email [email protected]

So how exactly does this work, now that Port Alberni has been selected for Home Town Takeover Canada?

The show will be filming in Port Alberni from June 10-August 28, and they will be renovating key civic spaces, 8 resident homes, and select businesses of their choosing. As we all saw this week, the format is all about the surprise element, so we will be ready for the big reveal when the series airs this fall!

There are so many great stories to tell here, and only so many episodes they can film, but if you have a great suggestion, please email it directly to the show’s producers at: [email protected]

As for the bill when it arrives at the table? Home Town Takeover Canada covers the cost of the renovations to businesses and resident homes. The City of Port Alberni will cover the cost of the renovations to civic spaces, but we are able to leverage their team of designers and renovation experts for this work for free—a significant value-add that would not be available to us otherwise.

The exterior renovations to the Marine Building were approved by City Council at a Council meeting on April 20, 2026, ahead of the Home Town Takeover Canada announcement. City staff have identified potential sources of financing for this project, including grant monies and strategies to leverage funding from non-tax sources. The City is finalizing the funding plan now.

We’re thrilled to bring this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to the benefit of all. Please stay tuned for further updates on projects that Home Town Takeover Canada will be completing in civic spaces.

The Museum's newest exhibit, "Guy Langlois: The Silence Between the Notes” opens on June 18 and runs to September 12, 2026.

Be invited into meditative landscapes where atmosphere, light, and the quiet poetics of nature take centre stage.

Langlois's work encourages viewers to slow down, stepping into spaces that evoke mystery, magic, and a sense of contemplative wonder.

There is an opening reception for the exhibition on Sat. June 20th from 2-4 pm and will include a musical performance by Dennis Olsen. Light refreshments will be served.

The photo featured here is called "The Ocean's Thunder".

The Alberni Valley Museum is located at 4255 Wallace Street.

Heads up! A little traffic change down at Harbour Quay, starting June 10.

To allow for construction at the Marine Building in Harbour Quay, the area in red on the map below will be closed off, and all traffic will need to flow past the roundabout and turn right to proceed through the Quay (see blue arrow).

We apologize for the disruption and thank you for your patience.

Did you hear? Home Town Takeover Canada will be taking on renovations to the Marine Building at Harbour Quay as one of its featured projects!

Visit www.letsconnectpa.ca/home-town-takeover-canada for more details.

This project includes extending the patio in front of the Marine Building and will affect some businesses located within the building during the construction period.

Before yesterday’s public announcement, Marine Building businesses that could be affected by this project had already been contacted as part of the production’s assessment and selection process.

Following the announcement, City staff met directly with the affected businesses to discuss the project in more detail and to continue coordination on timing, impacts, and support.

We recognize that construction during the summer season is challenging, particularly for small businesses. The City deeply values our local business community and is committed to working closely with affected tenants to help manage impacts and support them through the renovation period.

Harbour Quay will remain open throughout production and will continue to offer much for residents and visitors to enjoy. We appreciate the community’s patience and support as this work moves forward, and we look forward to seeing the renewed space completed!
