BIG THANKS to everyone who stopped by our table this weekend at the Alberni District Fall Fair! We had a fantastic time connecting with you, and congratulations to the winners of our door prize draw. Very special thanks to our volunteers for being so generous with their time talking about our recovery programs and outreach services. The Fall Fair is here and it's already off to a great start. Some of the folks from the Franklin River Therapeutic Recovery Community at Shelter Farm submitted produce for the competition and took home ribbons!! 🏆🥇 Well done!!

The baby chicks are growing quickly, Seven Springs apples have arrived and are available at the farmers market or in your CSA, and the strawberries are starting to produce—just in time for a quick harvest before winter! Meeeow!!! We’re proud to be a pet friendly shelter, helping ensure people experiencing homelessness do not have to choose between accessing shelter and staying with their beloved pets.

Right now, a couple of our shelter clients could use some help with food for their cats. We are currently accepting donations of cat food to help make sure these pets have what they need while staying with us. Please drop off at: 3978 8th ave, corner of 8th and Maitland.

Your support helps us care for both people and the animals who are an important part of their lives. ❤️🐾

😍😍SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: We're changing our name to the Arrowsmith Ridge Communities Association!

For more than 50 years, our organization has grown alongside the communities we serve. What began in 1972 as Friendship Lodge evolved into the Port Alberni Shelter Society, expanding from emergency shelter to include wellness supports, food programs, agriculture based recovery, and other supportive services.

Today, our work extends across both sides of Mount Arrowsmith, including our newest recovery site in Nanoose Bay. Our new name, Arrowsmith Ridge Communities Association (ARCA), reflects that growth while staying true to our purpose: creating supportive communities where people can find safety, connection, opportunity, and a path forward.

Please be patient with us as transition to our new name and embrace the changes! 🥰🥰
