Port Alberni Shelter Society

Port Alberni Shelter Society PASS provides a variety of housing options, food, clothing, services and support for those experiencing homelessness.

The Port Alberni Shelter Society builds therapeutic recovery communities centred on farming and growing food, where residents develop skills and opportunities while accessing all other essential supports for people experiencing homelessness. Shelter Farm, our social enterprise, is also the home of our Therapeutic Recovery Community (TRC) program.

As you may have heard, Harbour Quay is getting a makeover. Rest assured Spirit Square Farmers' Market will continue throughout the construction. All the folks from Shelter Farm are looking forward to seeing you this Saturday, 9am-12pm. Thank you for supporting local food! 🍓

📣📣📣Yes, we will be running the market through the summer! We will be in the same place, as always, in the Spirit Square.

The only downside to the renovations happening at the quay, is the loss of parking. The quay parking lot will blocked off at the water fountain until the end of summer.

Here’s a reminder of the other parking lots close by where you can park to attend the market - by the train station, behind the Porto taco building and further down Harbour road by the maritime discovery centre.

Come on out to our Community Dance Practice this Monday, June 8th at 6:00 PM at the House of Gathering!

Everyone is welcome — all ages and experience levels. Whether you want to dance, sing, learn, or simply come watch, visit, and spend time with community, we'd love to see you there.

We would especially love to see our neighbours from Tseshaht First Nation, Huu-ay-aht First Nations, and all other Nations join us as we come together as one family to celebrate, learn, and share our cultures through song and dance.

These practices are a great opportunity for us to learn, prepare, and come together as one community as we get ready for the upcoming FIFA Live Watch Parties.

Please feel free to share it with other Nations

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and seen when receiving care.

Look for Rainbow Pride Lanyards as a sign of support. Staff, medical staff and members of community who wear them have taken training to better support 2SLGBTQIA+ patients and families.

This symbol can make it easier to know who you can talk to, ask questions of or share information with when receiving care.

Pride is a time to celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

It is also a reminder that safer, more inclusive care takes action, every day. Island Health remains committed to listening, learning and doing better.

Join us at Pride events this year in Nanaimo, Campbell River, Victoria, Salt Spring Island and Comox. We look forward to celebrating with community!

☀️Update from our Seven Springs Therapeutic Recovery Community (TRC) in Nanoose ☀️ - Recently at Seven Springs, we held an invasive species-themed day program focused on identifying and removing Scotch Broom. We discussed how to recognize this invasive plant, why it threatens local ecosystems, and the important role we can all play in restoring and protecting the land around us.

We also talked about stewardship, positive community contribution, and personal responsibility. This exercise was a good example of delayed gratification, just like in recovery, positive change often comes from consistent small efforts rather than immediate results.

Big thanks to everyone who participated. We greatly appreciate your hard work!
