Please be aware that the BC Wildfire Service Coastal Fire Centre is implementing a fire ban on Category 1 (campfires), and Category 2 & Category 3 (open fires) starting Thursday, May 7, at 12:00 p.m. (noon). This prohibition will remain in place until October 31, 2026, or until the order is rescinded.
This fire ban applies to the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District Government, City of Port Alberni Local Government, and areas within the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.
During this fire ban, the following activities are also restricted:
❌ Sky lanterns
❌ Binary exploding targets
❌ Fireworks
❌ Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
❌ Air curtain burners
❌ Carbonizers
❌ Controlled air incinerators
❌ Wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building.
✅ Please note: This prohibition does not include the use of outdoor stoves. As per the Wildfire Regulation, an outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat, or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel, or gaseous fuel, and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall.
