The Alberni Valley Sort’nGo Centre (Landfill) will be closed on Sunday, June 21 in recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day.

☝️This is the first year that the ACRD will be closed on this day. This marks an important step forward in our ongoing work with Tseshaht First Nation, reflecting a shared commitment to respect, recognition, and relationship-building.

The decision to close the landfill on June 21 is one outcome of our joint landfill working group, and we’re proud to take this step together.

Please plan your visits accordingly to avoid inconvenience.

We thank residents for their understanding as we continue to strengthen partnerships and honour Indigenous communities in our region.

you’re not using your wood stove this summer, why not upgrade? You may even qualify for a rebate through the Community Wood Smoke Reduction Program.

The Community Wood Smoke Reduction Program, formerly known as the Wood Stove Exchange Program, aims to replace old wood stoves (very high particulate emissions) with efficient, low emissions models, or alternatives. Rebates range from $600-$3,000, plus a retailer discount, dependent on the type of replacement appliance. This program is funded by the BC Ministry of Environment and overseen by the BC Lung Association.

Options for households include:
➡ Exchange of any wood stove manufactured prior to 2018/19, switching to heat pump or pellet stove
➡ Exchange of an uncertified wood stove (pre-1994) to a certified wood stove
➡ Remove existing non-EPA or CSA certified wood appliance without installation of new appliance
➡ Add an electric insert to your existing fireplace

The ACRD has participated in this program for more than a decade, providing about 390 rebates to residents of the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District.
For more information, including a list of retailers that take part, check out www.acrd.bc.ca/wsreduction or call 250-720-2700.

Guess what?? The hit HGTV show Home Town Takeover is coming to Canada this year—and Port Alberni is in the running!

What does that mean? It means we could get a town makeover from their team of renovation experts and designers.
