Yesterday, Sep. 14, I was honoured to attend and represent the City of Pitt Meadows, along with Councillor Gwen Hopkins O'Connell, at a very special part of The Tour de Coast Cops for Cancer at the Pitt Meadows RCMP Detachment.

In the cohort of cyclists was Pitt Meadows’ first-ever Cops for Cancer rider, Cpl. Shawn Blakeway!

With a phalanx of Police Motorcycle outriders and various other support vehicles, it was quite the spectacle entering from the north side, across Lougheed Highway to our new Police Detachment building.

There to greet them were many of our own detachment including
Staff Sergeant Michelle Luca, Pitt Meadows RCMP NCO i/c

Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast 2026 is an exciting annual event where police agencies and emergency service personnel cycle for 8 days along the coast of BC, raising money for childhood cancer research and support services at the Canadian Cancer Society

Tour de Coast has grown from the strength of dedicated volunteers and community partners. We are excited to continue our mission for 2026! Tour de Coast remains determined to continue supporting children and families living with and beyond cancer. Your ongoing support is vital, as we continue towards making life better today and transforming the future of cancer forever. Why? Because nothing big gets solved by one person or one organization. To take on cancer, it takes every one of us. It takes a society. Donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society through Cops for Cancer are used to fund life-saving pediatric cancer research and caring support programs like Camp Goodtimes.

Last evening, I had the honour of attending a very special award presentation of the Mexican Government "Ohtli Recognition 2026" to our local Pitt Meadows resident Thelma Rodriguez.
This very prestigious award was presented at an official ceremony at the Consulado General de México in Vancouver.

In attendance were;
Ambassador Carlos Joaquín González.
Julián Ádem Díaz de León, Consul General of Mexico in Vancouver.
Minister León Rodríguez Zahar, Consul for Communities.
Luis Guillermo Elías Villanueva, Consul for Protection.
And Michel Schilling, CEO of Community Savings Credit Union.
The Honourable Robert Meachen, City Councillor for the City of Pitt Meadows.

The Ohtli Award is one of the highest honors granted by the Mexican government to individuals—often of Mexican origin—who have dedicated their lives to supporting and empowering the Mexican community abroad.
Presented annually by Mexico’s Secretariat of Foreign Affairs through its embassies and consulates, the award includes a medallion, a silver rosette, and a diploma. Its name, Ohtli (meaning “path” in Nahuatl), symbolizes opening pathways for others to follow.

This the third recognition of Thelma's work in our community and follows awards from The Province of BC and City of Pitt Meadows
Thelma is a true example of what it means to volunteer time and energy to help others.

It was a privilege to be in attendance as a representative of the City and once again to be part of being Pitt Meadows Proud.
Congratulations to Thelma Rodriguez and her family on this significant award for all her work in our community.

A big shout-out and thank you to my friend Bud for building my new election signs!

I’m also proud to say that all of my signs, leaflets and other campaign materials have been purchased locally. And when the election is over, all campaign materials will be recycled. ♻️

🏡 WOULD YOU LIKE A YARD SIGN?

YOUR VOTE WILL HELP SHAPE PITT MEADOWS FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS.

We have an incredible community. Let’s work together to keep Pitt Meadows one of the very best places in Canada to call home.

✅ Vote for proven results.
✅ Vote for experience.
✅ Vote for commitment to the work of Council.

I strongly believe local government should not be political. It should be about doing what is in the best interests of the community and protecting the quality of life of everyone who calls Pitt Meadows home.

Promises are easy. Action is what counts.

Experienced leadership — and an understanding of the realities of local government — are essential as Pitt Meadows moves forward. We can embrace the future while protecting the character, quality of life and small-town feel that make our community special.

Over the coming weeks, I look forward to getting out in the community and speaking with many of you about what matters to you and your family.

Having served on Pitt Meadows City Council with Nicole for the last 8 years, I am delighted she is running again for Mayor. Nicole has provided a clear focus on what matters to our community and has led with respect and great integrity. Our council has worked cohesively under Nicole’s leadership and I look forward to another four years working alongside her.

Having been voted as the #1 small community in all of Canada in 2026, let’s maintain our position as the best place to live, work and raise a family. It takes strong leadership and dedication to sustain the quality of life for all who call Pitt Meadows home.

On October 17, vote for your community and re-elect Mayor Nicole MacDonald - Pitt Meadows and Councillor Bob Meachen for City of Pitt Meadows BC
