NEWS: Community Living Prince Edward and OPSEU Local 448 issue joint letter to Premier Ford urging the delivery of immediate funding to help end strike.
Dear Premier Ford,
We are writing to urge you to deliver immediate funding to help end this strike and ensure that the people supported by Community Living Prince Edward can receive the support of their skilled and dedicated workers and can resume participation in their community.
Across developmental services, agencies like Community Living Prince Edward are facing growing pressures: waitlists are growing, support needs are becoming more complex, and it is increasingly difficult to recruit and retain dedicated staff. Funding levels are not keeping up with operational realities or growing demand for services.
A skilled and dedicated workforce is essential in ensuring that individuals with disabilities and their families receive the care and support they need. Many agencies are struggling to retain or recruit staff, which has a direct impact on the quality of care and support that people receive.
Cost-of-living pressures are also placing significant strain on these dedicated workers and agencies who provide care and support in many roles and capacities. Many workers are facing personal financial crises, including increased debt, reliance on overdraft, and food bank dependence.
We are calling on your government to deliver immediate funding for a Bill 124 remedy, along with sustained and dedicated investments in community and social services.
Without additional dedicated funding, agencies are unable to deliver meaningful wage increases for workers while also keeping pace with growing operational pressures and increasing demand for services. The cost of inaction will be far greater – for workers, for people with disabilities and their families, and for the long-term sustainability of these critical services.
Sincerely,
Susan Treverton, Executive Director, Community Living Prince Edward
