Our department is once again pleased to have the opportunity to utilize the Office of the Fire Marshal’s (OFM) Mobile Live Fire Training Unit (MLFTU) at our training centre.
We utilized the MLFTU last year and found it to be an excellent resource for providing our members with realistic, scenario based live fire training.
As we did last year, we have also opened the training opportunity to neighbouring fire departments, allowing them to take advantage of this valuable training resource while it is in our community.
Beginning Wednesday evening, residents may notice smoke coming from the area of our J.H. Fairbank training centre located 547 Maude St. Petrolia.
We want to reassure the community that this smoke is part of planned and controlled fire training exercises involving the MLFTU. These exercises are conducted in a controlled environment by trained firefighters as part of our ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance our emergency response capabilities.
Training is currently scheduled for Wednesday 16th September, Thursday 17th, Saturday 18th, and Sunday 20th. At this time, there is no training scheduled for Friday evening.
We appreciate the continued support of our community as we take this opportunity to train alongside our neighbouring departments and further strengthen our ability to respond safely and effectively when called upon.
If you see smoke coming from the training centre during these scheduled times, there is no need for concern, it is part of our planned training activities.

Our Fire Prevention students will be going door-to-door and are legitimate representatives of the Petrolia North Enniskillen Fire Department. Their will have a Petrolia North Enniskillen Fire tag on them to identify.
When they visit, they’ll ask to confirm your alarms are working. If you prefer, you can simply test your smoke and CO alarms while they are at your door so they can hear them sound.
This post is simply to let you know that we’ll be in your neighbourhood over the coming weeks. We appreciate your cooperation as we work together to keep our community safe.
Thank you for helping make Petrolia a safer place!
