Our organization was formed in 2008 by a group stakeholders in the future of the TSW. We draw our support from cottage associations, local politicians, First Nations, environmental groups, the Chambers of Commerce, marina operators, as well as other business people who are resort operators and/or involved in tourism. We build support in the TSW regions to assist both the federal and provincial gov

ernments, Parks Canada and the TSW Commission to secure a sound future for the Trent Severn Watershed.

We hope expanded services for TSW become a reality this summer. We wait and see.

There's a good chance boaters could see expanded services on the Trent-Severn Waterway this summer.

Here is a summary from Ann Ambler, Secretary for Kawartha Lake Stewards Association which is very succinct. Thank you, Ann!

Some Background : Since the Federal Government Panel Report – “It’s All About the Water” was issued in 2008, the “Voices for the TSW” has tried to raise awareness within the Kawartha Lake region and the TSW watershed of the serious issues facing the operation of the Waterway. These issues include funding and governance, safety, water management, environmental and economic impact on the on the Waterway community, considerable infrastructure repair and navigation. The goals of the “ Voices” have been endorsed by numerous cottage/property associations, business associations and the Kawartha Lake Stewards Association.
“Voices” has representation on a new Group as outlined below:
Recently a small group, representing a variety of interests along the TSWaterway has been formed –“ The Trent-Severn Waterway Working Group”, capably chaired by Marc Ackert, Captain of the Kawartha Voyageur to pursue these problematic issues. Marc was a speaker at the KLSA AGM on October 5th. The Group intends to effect a change.
The Trent-Severn Waterway working Group has launched a website www.trentsevern.ca and you are encouraged to join the initiative in the provided sign-up page and to keep current with the Group’s work. Please see the most recent information below from the Chair, Marc Ackert ---

A presentation was made by Marc Ackert from Ontario Waterway Cruises suggesting that a collaborative group should be formed to present solutions to the federal govt as to how to make the TSW more viable.

Trent-Severn Waterway usage is down by more than 30% since cost-cutting changes that cause delays for boaters travelling through the locks, Peterborough county council heard Wednesday.

Yes, we need to all cooperate in getting new vision for the TSW that we all can on to, including TSW and the other historic canals in Canada. There is so much potential, that it would be a shame to lose this wonderful waterway.

Talking about the ongoing problems with the Trent Severn Waterway, as a result of the shorter hours and reduced staff and services. Follow our discussion at:...

From discussions with Rideau Lockmasters, the reduction in operational hours has had a much larger effect on local boaters.

Where previously the local boater could make a long day trip for lunch or to get in a round-trip to their favorite spot, now their cruising day and range is much reduced. Loopers can travel at their own pace and a shorter cruising day has minimal effect on the Parks Canada Canal System. The shorter travel days may add a day or two overall to passage through the system, but what does that really matter?

As to expense, we paid a little over $600 US for a seasonal canal and mooring pass. It was well worth the cost. If you did the three major Parks Canada systems (Richelieu/Chambly, Rideau, and Trent-Severn) in one season it would be a real bargain. For not only this reason, if you can get under 17 ft., we strongly recommend the Champlain route as opposed to the Erie/Oswego route for the Great Loop.
