đź’śMEET OUR FIRST REBEL: CHRYSALIS OUTREACH MIDWIVES đź’ś

For Rebel with a Cause 2026, we’ve chosen five Rebels from our community. People and organizations who are taking action, challenging systems, advocating for others, and helping create a more just and equitable community.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to each of them.

Today, we’re proud to introduce our first Rebel, Chrysalis Outreach Midwives. www.chrysalismidwives.ca

Their work is rooted in harm reduction, dignity, respect, and access to care. They are filling an important gap in our community and helping ensure that people who often experience barriers within the healthcare system are seen, heard, and supported.

We are honoured to recognize Chrysalis Outreach Midwives as a 2026 Rebel with a Cause.

Here is their story đź’ś

"Chrysalis Outreach Midwives was officially launched in November 2025 by Kirsten Schmidt and Dr Kate Gerster to work with pregnant folks facing homelessness, substance use disorders and complex mental health issues. This was work Kirsten had been doing in Kawartha Lakes as “extra” to her regular midwifery practice - but Dr Gerster recognized the need for expansion to Peterborough so we grew! Shortly after launching, Krysta Moland joined us as a second midwife on the team. We provide non judgemental sexual and reproductive health care through outreach services to shelters, drop-ins, methadone clinics, and tents. Our work is about harm reduction. We ensure clients are treated with respect within health care, support our obstetrical colleagues in providing holistic care to our folks, and work with the community to improve access and understanding of sexual and reproductive needs. We have assisted almost 30 women/gender diverse folks from the community this past year with abortion care and prenatal/labour/postpartum support."

Take Back The Night is just 3 weeks away! Join us on Thursday September 17th in the couryard of Peterborough Square from 5-9pm for an evening of community connections, poets, rallying, and supporting survivors of sexual violence!
This year our planning committee chose the theme of "Our Voices, Our Strength, Our Community", signifying how much stronger we are when we join together to uplift one another and fight for societal change. Stay tuned over the next few weeks to learn about which agencies and special guests will be joining us this year, as well as some of our sponsors and supporters who make hosting this event a possibility!

This year's logo was generously designed and created by graphic and graphite artist Kyle Enright. Check out more of his artwork by following or reaching out to [email protected]

Honestly, we were waiting for all the painting to be finished before we officially made the announcement!
