πŸŽ“πŸ”₯ Back-to-School Dorm Fire Safety: Know Before You Go!

Heading off to college or university? Whether you’re living in a residence, dorm, or student apartment, take a few minutes to make sure you’re ready in case of a fire.

🚨 Check your smoke alarms.
Make sure there is a working smoke alarm where you live and know what it sounds like. Never ignore or disable an alarm.

πŸšͺ Know two ways out.
Take a look around your residence and identify two ways to get out in an emergency. Know where the exits and stairwells are located, and remember, never use the elevator during a fire.

πŸ”₯ If the alarm sounds, get out!
Leave immediately, close doors behind you if you can, and go to your designated meeting place. Once you're outside, stay outside and call 9-1-1.

πŸ“š This school year, make fire safety part of your routine.
Check your alarm. Know your exits. Get out safely.

πŸ”₯ Labour Day Long Weekend Fire Safety Tips

The Labour Day long weekend is a great time to enjoy the outdoors, fire up the BBQ, and spend time with family and friends, but don’t let a fire emergency ruin the last long weekend of summer!

Keep these simple fire safety tips in mind:

πŸ”₯ BBQ Safety
β€’ Keep your BBQ outdoors and well away from buildings, decks, railings and anything that can burn.
β€’ Never leave a BBQ unattended while it’s in use.
β€’ Keep children and pets a safe distance away.
β€’ Clean grease buildup regularly to help prevent flare-ups.

🚫 No Open-Air Burning
Open Air Burning is NOT permitted in the City of Peterborough.

🚨 And remember…
Make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working, keep exits clear, and have a plan to get everyone outside safely if a fire occurs.

Enjoy the long weekend, stay safe, and don’t let a preventable fire put a damper on your Labour Day!

πŸ”₯ From all of us at Peterborough Fire Services, have a safe and happy Labour Day weekend!

We were lucky to welcome a couple of wonderful young visitors who brought plenty of smiles with them!

One special young lady surprised us with an amazing picture she created to say thank you to our firefighters. We absolutely loved it and are so grateful for her thoughtful gesture! 🎨❀️

We also had a young visitor all the way from France πŸ‡«πŸ‡· join us to learn about what it’s like to be a firefighter here in Canada. We were happy to show him around, answer his questions, and give him a little Canadian firefighter experience! πŸš’πŸ

Visits like these are a wonderful reminder of why we love connecting with our community and that you’re never too young (or too far from home!) to be curious about fire safety and firefighting.

Thank you both for making our day a little brighter! β€οΈπŸš’πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

πŸš’πŸ”₯ A Great Visit at Peterborough Fire Services! πŸ”₯πŸš’

Yesterday, we were happy to welcome the Big Brothers Big Sisters with the Kids and Cops Group to Station #2!

The group had a great time touring the station, meeting our firefighters, checking out the fire trucks and learning some important fire safety tips along the way. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸ‘©β€πŸš’πŸš’

We love having the opportunity to connect with local youth, show them what firefighters do, and help build positive relationships with our community’s first responders. ❀️

A big thank you to Big Brothers Big Sisters for bringing the group to visit us! We hope everyone had as much fun as we did! 😊

Stay safe, stay curious, and remember fire safety is for everyone! πŸ”₯🧯

We had a great time visiting Alternatives Community Program Services Peterborough to provide staff with hands-on fire safety and fire extinguisher training!

Our training covered important fire safety practices, including how to recognize fire hazards, what to do in the event of a fire, and how to safely use a fire extinguisher when appropriate. 🧯

A big thank you to the Alternatives team for taking the time to learn, ask questions, and help keep their staff and clients safe.

Water Safety with PFS!

🌊 Wear your life jacket. A properly fitted life jacket can save your life, even if you're a strong swimmer.

πŸ‘« Swim with a buddy. Never swim alone. Having someone with you means help is close by if an emergency happens.

🚫 Don't jump from bridges. Bridge jumping is extremely dangerous. Water depths can change, hidden rocks and debris can cause serious injuries, and strong currents can quickly pull you under.

A fun day on the water starts with making safe choices. Whether you're swimming, boating, paddling, or fishing, remember that drowning can happen quickly and silently.
