Sometimes the most important programs are not the ones making headlines.

Sometimes they are the ones quietly opening their doors every week and giving people a place to belong.

The Art Wellness Program, a partnership between Greenwood Coalition and CMHA, has become exactly that. For the past three years, it has been a welcoming space where people can drop in, create, connect with others, enjoy a snack, and simply spend time in a supportive community.

As Aimee shared, one participant recently arrived feeling down, struggling to even get out of bed that day. After spending time with the group, sharing some food, and taking part in the creative activities, they left feeling better.

That is the impact of programs like this.

Not every success story is dramatic. Sometimes success is showing up. Sometimes it is making a connection. Sometimes it is having a place where people know your name and are glad to see you.

Lee Higginson, the program's art facilitator, describes the program as a touchstone and foundation for many people in the community. It provides something that is increasingly rare: an open door space where anyone can come in, be creative, and step away from the challenges of everyday life for a little while.

Programs like this rely on community support.

When you participate in Change the Cycle, make a donation, or share the message, you are helping keep spaces like Art Wellness accessible to the people who need them most.

Because mental wellness is not built in isolation.

It is built through connection, creativity, community, and knowing there is a place where you belong.

That is what Change the Cycle is all about. Community taking care of community.

We often think of architecture and design as buildings, drawings, and construction. But as the team at Unity Design Studio points out, it is really about people. It is about creating spaces where people live, work, gather, and feel like they belong.

That is one of the reasons we are grateful to have Unity Design Studio supporting Change the Cycle.

Mental health is not just about programs and services. It is also about community. It is about feeling connected to the people and places around you. When those connections are strong, communities are stronger too.

Thank you to the team at Unity Design Studio for supporting the important work of CMHA and for helping us continue the conversation around mental health in Peterborough and the Kawarthas.

If you have not signed up yet, there is still time to get involved. Register, donate, support a rider, or simply help spread the word.

Every conversation matters. Every dollar helps. Every rider makes a difference.

Our next Agent of Change might just be the most popular one yet.

Meet Roger.

With a little help from his friend Mark Million from the Peterborough Petes, Roger is proud to announce that he has officially joined this year's Change the Cycle as an Agent of Change.

While Roger may not be able to tell his story himself, his message is an important one.

Change the Cycle brings our community together to support mental health awareness, advocacy, and local programs that help youth and families across our region. Since launching in 2023, the event has raised more than $100,000 for mental health initiatives, including more than $30,000 last year alone.

This year, Roger is encouraging everyone to help us make an even bigger impact.

Whether you ride, donate, sponsor, or simply help spread the word, every contribution helps support mental health services right here in our community.

Visit changethecycle.net to make a donation or register today.

And if a dog can become an Agent of Change, surely the rest of us can too. 🐾💙

Join us June 20th at Nichols Oval and help us Change the Cycle.
